Schools

  • Assured : UT Austin auto admit, but still a Reach for its engineering school.
  • Possible Targets: Boston University, Northeastern
  • EA: Georgia Tech, USC, UMich
  • Reaches: Ivies, NYU, other T20’s.

Please give me realistic advice for approaching college admissions!! I have incredibly strong essays which have been reviewed by my counselors and yet I feel like I fall lackluster on Awards / Test Scores compared to others  My school offers very few opportunities, but I hope my attempts still reflect on my application.

I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. How much can you afford? The publics like UMich will be very stingy. UMich math is well regarded but is a very tough major with lots of work.

If you want to study engineering, then you need a safety - whether Houston, Texas Tech or a low cost OOS like Alabama or Ms State.

As you said, engineering at Texas is a crapshoot for you.

So in essence, your entire list are reaches.

That’s never a smart strategy.

Congratulations on your achievements.

UT Austin is test required, so they will see your math test score. Ga Tech and several Ivies are test required as well. Which Ivies are you considering for engineering?

I agree others that you need at least one affordable highly likely school…what school is that? Do you have cost constraints? I would also add some target schools (BU and NEU are reaches.)

For the schools that offer EA, get your app in that round, don’t wait until RD.
