Chance me for UMich LSA EA. 3.85 UW GPA, 1270 SAT, double legacy, OOS

Hi I’m out of state applying to umich lsa ea.
4.58 weighted gpa
3.85 unweighted gpa
1270 sat
hispanic
legacy both parents
2 letters of rec from math and science

graduating high school w aa
hispanic recognition certificate
ecs: 2 leadership positions, many honor clubs, 2 jobs, many volunteer hours

First of all, can your parents afford the cost of attendance at Michigan? It’s $76K to $80K per year depending on the year.

They do have some scholarships for non-residents, but most of those wont begin to cover the full fees to attend ($10K per year). They are competitive.

You, yourself can only qualify to get loans for ~ $6-7K per year from the federal government. So your costs to attend are going to be much more than those amounts combined.

@unknown39393 i am next to positive UMichigan doesn’t give legacy consideration.
Did you submit the SAT score? What’s your class rank?
OOS will be VERY expensive.

yes my parents are HUGE umich fans so they will pay the oos tuition

i called admissions and they said they take note of it. my counselor told me to submit test scores but i was hesitant. my class rank is 11/484

Did you apply test optional? Your SAT is below the 25% score range for Michigan.

It’s definitely a reach, but I wish you well.

should i call and have my test scores retracted and see if that’s possible?

@unknown39393 don’t bank on legacy to help

I don’t’ believe you have a chance.

Your test score isn’t close to their level and per CDS, they rate the test important.

That said, here’s what they say about going TO or removing tests…do you have something to sub in?

  • Students who do not wish to have SAT or ACT scores considered as part of their application review can still submit other optional forms of testing (such as AP exam scores or IB exam scores), and these scores may be self-reported.
  • Students who initially did not submit test scores may self-report or submit official scores prior to the Feb. 1 Regular Decision deadline.
  • Students who initially submit test scores can redact scores once they are submitted.

For what it’s worth, the CDS says alumni relation doesn’t matter - and most publics are that way.

Worst case - you go to another fine school.

Good luck.

i submitted my ap exams too. since im graduating with my aa do you think they would consider me as a transfer?

Not if you’re in high school.

Where else did you apply?

U Michigan out of state - a lot of money!!

I get the football part but…wow.

You’ll find out soon enough - only they can tell you if you 're in or not.

i applied to a bunch of schools and have gotten accepted to fsu as a transfer and auburn as a freshman so far. i find out from 3 more schools next month. im gonna email my admissions counselor and see if i can get my sat score retracted to try to have a shot. my parents can afford michigan and they really want me to go. my top schools are umich uf and maybe tulane but umich is my number 1

Best of luck to you.

You might want to study the CDS.

The one two years ago showed 86% submitted and perhaps that’s why the counselor told you to do so.

Maybe they can guide you…including on transfer vs. first year as you got accepted with both.

FSU and Auburn - both outstanding.

Congrats and good luck.

I saw this posted today, about Tulane, from a private college admissions counselor-

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS: :green_square:TULANE UNIVERSITY - EARLY ACTION (EA) DECISION RELEASE UPDATE for CLASS of 2024.

:exclamation:JUNIORS - please take note for next year if Tulane is on your radar.

:green_square: EARLY ACTION (EA) DECISIONS will be RELEASED:
Wednesday, December 20, 4 pm Central Time.

:green_square: TULANE had a significant INCREASE in completed EA applications - up 34%.

  • Tulane admitted a larger number of EA students, however, the increase in applications led to a lower acceptance rate.

:green_square: ACCEPTANCE RATE for TULANE EA this year is 12%.

:green_square: Average unweighted CORE GPA of accepted students is 3.85.

:green_square: Average SAT - 1495
:green_square: Average ACT - 33.5
:exclamation: For those students who submitted scores.

:green_square: Fewer students were admitted to ED “to provide more opportunities for families that were less comfortable making a binding commitment.”

:green_square: Saw a “significant jump in first-generation student population in the accepted student cohort.”

:green_square: 25% increase in students from Louisiana in the EA admit group.

:green_square: DEFERRED students may “express their continued interest (or indicate an interest in the Spring Scholars program) through the FORM on their GREEN WAVE PORTAL. They also have the opportunity to switch to ED II by January 16.”

:green_heart: All the best to those waiting to hear from TULANE UNIVERSITY on Wednesday!

The journey continues…
Know yourself.
Know colleges.
Know admissions decisions.

i submitted no test scores for tulane i think i have a chance of getting deferred since my gpa is 3.85
