Chance me for UMich?

GPA: 3.7
ACT: 30 (and a superscore of 34 in english)

I’m applying for theater design and production, so here’s my theater experience:
-run crew for each show worked
-worked on 7 main stage shows and 3 student-run shows
-crew head for 5 shows
-member of the Internatioinal Thespian Society
-member of Technical Services Crew (a select group of tech students to run other events like choir/band/orchestra concerts, ballets, etc. throughout the year)
-experience with a local radio group doing sound/lights/other tech
-member of Drama Club

Related work:
-created original music for a student-produced short film that won 2 Student Emmy’s

I’m not part of a volunteering organization, but I’ve volunteered for several big high school events and get volunteer hours for school-sponsored tech events I’ve worked. I also recently registered as a volunteer for Partners In Health, and am planning my first big fundraising event for next summer.

Work experience:
-part-time busser at a restaurant
-Technical Services Crew member (get paid for non school-sponsored events)

I don’t have a lot of EC’s outside of theater, but I focus more on quality of EC’s as opposed to quantity, and I put A LOT of effort into what I love doing.

Chances?

Hate to do this, but bump

I’m a junior with similar credentials, so I’d be interested in knowing what other schools you’re looking at. In terms of chances for UMich overall, I’d think yours are pretty good (assuming your class rank isn’t very low for some reason…it really can all depend on the high school), but I don’t know what the application process for that program specifically is (although I should!). Good theater experience, though! If you show how much you love it, I can’t imagine that won’t help.

When you apply to the school of Music, having experience in what you’re interested in is very important. I think it’s really good that you have all those ECs in theater design and production and that will definitely help you. I’m pretty sure that the school of Music has more of an emphasis on demonstrating interest in what you’re actually applying to compared to LSA. However, you standardized test scores and GPA are still a little low, especially if you’re OOS. Before, I can actually say anything about your chances I need to know if you’re OOS or IS.

I’m OOS, so yes, my chances will be lower than IS. So I hope they really take into account theatre experience just as much or more than grades; a lot of times the theatre schools in universities do.
And I’m also applying to the DePaul Theatre School, Illinois State (being an Illinois resident, I have a much higher chancer of getting accepted there) UMinn, Indiana U, and Arizona State (I have a friend in their design and production program who says great things about it). So Michigan is really the only school I’m concerned about academically. Hopefully my resume and letter of rec from my tech director I’ve worked with all 4 years helps, along with my essays.
Thanks for the input!
