These are the stats for my son. Looking for Univ-Illinois Urbana-champaign for computer Engineering major fall 2025. Please can someone let us know What are his chances? TIA
UIUC doesn’t report CE acceptance rate, but it’s believed to be below 15%.
UIUC CE will be a reach for an OOS student with a relatively low GPA (and test score below the median), based on the average of the last three years. Your S must apply EA to have the best chance.
I would just say no . I know kids that went to the 2 top schools in the state and met their avgs that didn’t get in engineering. It’s one of the best /hardest programs to get in.
But… There are lots of other great schools of engineering.
Look up the schools CDS Common Data sets and look under the “C” tabs. That will give you all the information for schools to make sure your competitive.
I agree with others that UIUC would be a rather high reach.
What is your home state? People here on this web site should be able to suggest other very good universities for which admissions would be very likely.
Also, what is your budget? What is your budget without taking on any debt? Again this is something that will help people here suggest other schools that are likely to be affordable for you and your son.
I worked in high tech for my entire career. There are a lot of very good universities in the US that will prepare a student very well for a career in high tech.
You’ve got some great in-state options. Check out UT-Dallas especially, but also Texas Tech and U. of Houston.
What is your son interested in having for his college experience? Does he prefer the big state schools or would he prefer something more intimate? What size classes does he prefer? How does he feel about significant enthusiasm for intercollegiate sports? How does he feel about Greek life (sororities/fraternities)? What areas of the country is he interested in? How does he feel about urban/suburban/college town/remote locations? Are there particular interests he wants to pursue outside of computer engineering?
Np. I am from Illinois and know the school well. Since your willing to come to the Midwest check out Iowa State. It’s a really good school for engineering with one of the largest job fairs of any school. These kids get offers and jobs. Many of my patients have gone there and are all doing well.
Thank you…He applied for UT-Dallas and just got confirmation that he is accepted.
He does not have a preference for rural/urban school and is a diehard fan of Formula one.A big reason He prefers Illinois -Chicago because it was his hometown until we moved to texas a long time ago. He also wants to major in Computer engineering as he aspires to work on a field related to hardware and software as well.I Sincelerly appreciate all of your inputs…It opens up a my limited knowledge about the colleges and different perspectives to look into .Thank you
Your original post asked for a chance me for University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Is he wanting University of Illinois-Chicago(UIC)? UIUC is a reach, UIC would be a target I believe.
