I’m currently a junior and have just started creating a college list. Based on my current stats, I’m really interested in what schools I should add to my list - please be honest, my feelings won’t be hurt! Any advice on how to strengthen my chances is also welcome!

Demographics: Female Middle-Class Eastern Asian, Public School in Maryland, No Hooks

Intended Major: Biomedical Engineering (if possible, also a minor in business)

ACT: 36 (36 Reading, 36 Writing, 36 Science, 34 Math)

SAT: 1570 (800 Math, 770 Reading/Writing)

GPA: 4.0 unweighted, 4.94/5.0 weighted, No Class Rank

AP Courses (Subject to Change): Computer Science Principles (5), Calculus AB (5), Biology (5), U.S. Government & Politics (5), Calculus BC (5), Chinese (5), World History (TBD), Physics C (TBD), French (TBD), Chemistry (TBD), English Language and Composition (TBD), Statistics (TBD), Computer Science A (TBD), Psychology (TBD)

  • 7th place at FBLA Nationals, 1st place at FBLA states sophomore year

As great as your resume is Michigan might not be a target. It is a tough school to get into and reject a lot of students in your caliber. Have more safeties. Look lower down the food chain a bit. Usually for bioengineering you need a masters. So look at BS/MS 5 year programs. Michigan has that.

The Michigan threads are filled with high stat unbelievably qualified candidates. I believe it was last year, when a 4.0/1,600 UMich applicant was deferred, waitlisted and then rejected. He went on to attend CalTech. For all OOS applicants, UMich is a reach.

Biomedical isn’t a good choice. It’s hard to find a biomed job.

It’s better to just major in mechanical engineering.
