Chance me for USC, UCLA, NYU, and Stanford? :)

  • 35 ACT (non-superscore)
  • No SAT
  • 3.92 GPA unweighted (my school doesn’t offer weighted grades, IB, or AP)
  • Took eight college courses at my local university (I received A’s in all of them)
  • Started my own profitable business that generated over 800k revenue for clients
  • Overcame extreme home hardships (had to self represent in court)
  • Worked on a gubernatorial campaign and was the top performer out of over 24 other interns
  • Letter of Recommendation from my Governor
  • Student Council and National Honors Society President
  • President's award recipient
  • National Merit Semifinalist
  • From a rural town in the midwest
  • In the process of emancipation for all of my senior year
  • Volunteered 10 hours a month at the local animal shelter
  • Competitive dancer that won several national titles and competitions through 9, 10, and 11th grade

You do have an intruiging array of ec’s. The fact that you started your own profitable business is definitely a wow factor that many other applicants will probably lack on their application. Also, its good that you have a hook. What is your major might I ask?
Overall though, I think you might have a great chance of getting into these top schools.

You have a very unique profile. If you can explain well in your essays about your hardships and how you overcame them, I think you can get into any of the schools you listed

Can you afford UCLA given that you are OOS and in the process of emancipation? 65,000 and no form of aid for non-California students.

Do you need merit/financial aid of any kind? NYU is expensive and extremely stingy regarding aid.

Definitely an unusual profile that likely would work well for schools with holistic applications. I’m surprised that you didn’t try to apply to an Ivy.

NYU should be a match. USC a high match. Stanford is a reach, but that’s for everybody.

@AhmedDiongue I plan on majoring in business at USC, and economics at the other schools. Thank you for your help!

@GoBears2023 Thank you. After looking over your profile, I’m confident in your ability to succeed inside and outside the classroom. I’m interested to know where you end up going - college and beyond!

Best Wishes!

@Hamurtle I am the beneficiary of a fund that pays for my college, so paying for school is not of issue. I applied to Brown given their open curriculum and free reign so to speak. I want an individualized college experience, so I felt Brown was the Ivy that spoke to my needs and desires. Thanks for the help!

Warmest Regards!
