I will, never heard of it but I think at this point, it’s a good thing. Thanks
oh so no ed2 then
■■■■ I think there was i get notifications from them so I thought I’d get like notifs or something from them cuz my last 3 weeks have been really really busy…
But the college does guarantee to meet full need…so…if you have financial need, that should help.
But it’s a competitive college. Apply and see!
W&L does meet full need for all admitted students, without loans. Financial Aid.
I think your application would be very well received at W&L. You have a strong academic profile and meaningful ECs. W&L is open about the goal of adding diversity to the student body so your international status works in your favor.
W&L values leadership, service and social engagement and your ECs demonstrate that. You may want to look at The Bonner Program and Shepherd Consortium, two service-oriented programs that provide access to volunteer activities, resources and internships.
@V3rnor is a current student at W&L and may have more to add about student life.
Best of luck!
The deadline has passed to apply for the Johnson Scholarship, but I would not worry about that since it sounds like you would get a full ride (or close to it) based on need.
Thank God cuz I remember trying to rush my supplements and then asking myself why I was doing so when I couldn’t even think of good essay topics and then BOOM, Johnson Scholarship
But i’m glad I didn’t rush it in tho, cuz I just recently thought of what I want to genuinely write about for the essay prompts. Thank you!
Good luck to you. And just a friendly note to encourage you to use proper English in all your college essays and any communications w/ your AOs. Your posts are fine for CC

just one question tho: The parentologist (or something like that
) said that me being ranked 1 in a class of 15 would not work in my favor as my class size is small. But my school is really really competitive but I don’t know if colleges know that because I don’t know how good my councillor did our school profile (she’s new to this process so). He basically said that this and the fact that I am going test optional won’t effectively show colleges that I’m college ready academically. How much do you think this holds true to Washington and Lee and how much do you think it’ll actually affect my chances?Thank you!
(if u don’t really feel like answering, you can just ignore. I’ll also ask the @V3rnor you mentioned, but I don’t know how much students know about these types of things and your a “professional” as far as this platform goes)
I will this time, actually thank you
And i’ll make sure to contact him, thank you so much!
I’ll be needing it, thank you!
Oh duly noted
.
Thank you!

I think you are getting good advice. I will just toss in a couple thoughts.
First, I would not worry about “wasting” ED2. To be blunt, I am skeptical applying ED is likely to help a high need International much in the first place. These colleges know if they give you a high aid offer it is very likely you will take that offer, which eliminates the main reason they would even care about ED versus RD.
Second, as these conversations are unfolding I am coming around to the view that perhaps the most important single thing to do as a high need International is check that a college actually has a decent budget for International aid, and then check to see it doesn’t spread it around too much.
The thing is, we don’t really know for W&L because they just changed their policy, and reportedly are putting more money behind their new policy. Still, even before that they at least had one of the better budgets and average awards. And so I think they do represent a relatively good bet to get the offer you need.
You may be on to this, but Mount Holyoke is an interesting case because they actually had a bigger budget than W&L or indeed Williams in the last CDS round. However, they very much spread it around more, with more awards but a significantly lower average.
Indeed, this appears to be part of a strategy on their part to attract more Internationals in general–per CDS data, they were 22.1% International total, 13.5% Internationals receiving aid. W&L was 7.1% Internationals, 6.2% Internationals receiving aid, and Williams was 8.1% Internationals, 5.9% Internationals receiving aid.
This is good news if you are an International who only needs a medium amount from Mount Holyoke. I am not so sure it is good news if you really need a high amount. It is complicated, including because it is unclear from just this data how many higher need offers Mount Holyoke even makes. And again W&L is a moving target.
I guess my point is apply to them all and see what happens. As for ED2–eh, I am not sure it really matters. If you want to do what you said to Mount Holyoke you would do, I think that is fine. If you want to switch to W&L, that is also fine.
@parentologist’s observations are valid. If the AOs are not familiar with your school they will look for other ways to evaluate your academic preparation. Ideally that would be a strong test score. A 1280 is a good score, although below the 25th percentile even pre-Covid. What is the breakdown between EBRW and Math? I may consider submitting it… perhaps others will weigh in on that idea.
You can also email the AO for your region and get their opinion. You don’t need to share the score. Just ask if they are familiar with your school and if not, how they would contextualize your 4.0 and class rank. Would they recommend submitting an SAT score below the 25%. @Mwfan1921 is great at suggesting verbiage for communication with AOs and may have thoughts on taking this approach.
I’m definitely no expert, just a parent with a kid at W&L. But I can usually loop in others with more expertise.
For Washington and Lee, the 50th% SAT is mid to high 1400s. That is within reach, for you to bring your score up to that, from a 1280, but you would still have to take a gap year, because there is not an administration in Nigeria until March, which is too late for this year.
Hi hi! Apologize for the late responses, last few hours have been filled with cleaning & packing before I fly home.
To some of the points raised previously, yes W&L has gone need-blind. I’m unsure if that policy has gone into effect immediately, or if it will go into effect for the 2026-2027 application cycle. This wasn’t mentioned in the University-written article on the $132 million donation, but I’d lean towards it going into effect immediately (The page on Financial Aid already reflects “need-blind”). For internationals, aid is pretty good - one of my friends is attending on a need-based fullride and received stipends for books and more.
As for your chances of admission, you seem like you’d be a great fit on campus! Like DramaMama mentioned previously, there are a lot of opportunities both on and off campus to get involved in the local Lexington & Rockbridge County. Wth your interest in Financial Economics, W&L has the Williams Investment Society, which is a competitive program where the student-led organization manages part of W&L’s equity. Also, the Williams School is getting a brand new building set to open this following fall, just in time for the arrival of the Class of 2029.
There’s also a very strong international community on campus, with the Office of Inclusion and Engagement (OIE) plus the Center for International Education (CIE), Internationals receive a lot of support from faculty. Many of my friends on campus are Internationals, and everyone is super friendly.
Overall, W&L seems like a great fit for you; our very good financial aid should work in your favor. There’s a lot more I can say about W&L’s environment and student life - shoot me a PM if you want to learn more!
I will thank you
Spread it around means give more internationals less aid right?
I’ll either ed2 to W&L and RD to MHC or go RD for both since you’re right- ED2ing is pointless because they know that if they dangle enough money, I’ll come skipping…I appreciate the effort you put into this message, thank you
I’m guessing EBRW is the english part of the test…680English, 600Maths I know my explanation doesn’t count because I can’t explain to AOs or anything, but I had to skip like 5 questions on the maths because of time. I just had poor time management during that test…and still do (but thats just by the way, cuz I’ve had to explain to a few people why I got a “stupid” maths score
)
I think I’ll do this, it’ll save me a lot of guessing and making wrong decisions, thank you!
Hi
I’ve genuinely forgotten the prompts to the supplements but if there’s a why US essay I’ll make sure to use this so thank you
I also have a few questions but I’ll dm you with them
This is relieving to know…
I will be doing this, thank you for the invitation (when I said I would dm you earlier, I said it cuz I already say ur invitation to do so at the bottom of your message, not cuz I was planning to disturb you uninvitedly
)
Thanks!
Yes, exactly. If they were need blind for Internationals, I would expect their average award to be much higher, which means for the same budget they would have fewer Internationals getting any award at all.
