Chance me for Williams, Washington and Lee, Mount Holyoke [international, 4.0 GPA, <$3k]

Conn is a slightly easier admit than Midd, tho still a reach as far as your situation is concerned.

i Know :smiling_face_with_tear: I just want to let it be that I applied to 20 (via common app) for my own piece of mind so i don’t go thinking maybe if I had applied to that school, I would have gotten in (in the case of no acceptances) tha’t why, thank you!

One of your 20 should be a ā€œwastedā€ application where you get in even if you don’t get enough aid.
It’s important so you can show your family you CAN get in somewhere. (You can’t go but you knew it from the start.)
That one acceptance (which from the start you knew wouldn’t pan out so you purely do it for your family) is actually very important so your project isn’t considered dead&buried. For them, it’s evidence yours wasn’t a fool’s errand. For you, it’s hope you can try again.

And that’s on Sweet Briar

Very important :sob:

Yep!, thank you! (ive alr applied so if someone says I messed it up somehow, I’ll just delete my common app :woman_shrugging:t3:)

Thanks!

If you already have your ā€œhonorā€/ā€œwastedā€ app, then I’d choose either Connecticut College or Lafayette based on the average amount of aid. I’d leave Middlebury for next year/post IB/post Boarding School if need be.

Maryland has a great educational system overall, with one nationally famous school (Montgomery).
South Carolina not so much but there are good schools there too, including IB programs.

Hey @DramaMama2021 and @greensnwells. Both of my students are now Howard Alums who both had Cost of Attendance scholarships through the Karsh Stem Scholars Program (now taking applications for Cohort 9) at Howard. Howard has also started a similar program for most non-STEM majors called the Humanities and Social Sciences Scholars Program (now taking applications for Cohort 3).

There was a student in one of my kids cohorts who finished school in Nigeria, but both programs are only taking either US citizens or permanent residents. Howard also gives out a large amount of Institutional scholarships (just another term for Howard merit based Scholarships) that I believe are available to International students (including the full cost of attendance with a stipend Presidential Scholarship). Both of my kids saw International students who matriculated through Howard from lower income backgrounds, so my advice is to still keep Howard on your list. I am attaching a link to the Howard Financial Services website and good luck as you hunt for the ā€œbagā€.

I literally just joined this platform. I don’t know how to pm. Just pm me I should probably see ot

Hi!

Thank you so much :sob: idk if I’ve missed the deadline for Howard merit scholarships (ik most are EA/ED deadlines) but I’ll check, and I’ll still apply! (Cuz I got an award in the 9th grade from the then president of the country for youth contribution towards national growth (or something like that ; it was js 10 of us in the country and it was the only time he did it. Idk if it will actually help my app but I squeezed it in the awards section so hopefully I’ll apply and AOs will be in a good mood reading my app and accept me  ) Even tho I won’t get in I’ll still keep it cuz I really would have wanted a HBCU or women’s college and Howard is my only HBCU (wouldn’ve put spelman to but no intl aid and no CSS fee waiver I think).

Ok so I checked the link and the website doesn’t state merit aid dealines but that I’ll be notified with th acceptance so

Thank you! I hope your kids are doing great. U too.

Midd don’t even like me :expressionless:

Oh I’ve heard that name :kissing:

Noted :upside_down_face:

Between Conn and Lafayette which one do I pick tho. Conn has an acceptance rate of 38%, the other 30% and I’m having issues finding their avg aid to internationals but I think its 46k for Conn and 52k Lafayette. I may not have to pay the css fee for either (not sure, might end up doing so anyways) so which one do you think I’ll have a better shot at?

(By you I meant anyone in this thread by the way)

Thank you!

ohk :joy:

Just learned how to initiate a pm after like 3 months :sob:

Conn Coll RD last year was in the 20% range.

Roll the dice. They’re both going to be hard to get into, both have a budget for internationals and bith aren’t significantly different on either front AFAIK such that the difference would applying to be one rather than the other.

So if i had one spot on my list I should choose Lafayette? :upside_down_face:

That’s it I guess. People will be lying on the internet and be saying that app season passes but it literally doesn’t :sob:

Thanks!

I am not saying that. They are pretty different schools. A kid might like one and hate the other. Just stating that acceptance rates, particularly for small liberal arts schools, can be very deceiving.

They are heavily inflated by hooked applicants, more so than big schools (they need to field sports teams too).

I don’t think I’m going to have preference cuz I’m not in a position to be discontent with anything I get :joy:

Sorry could you explain what you mean by ā€œhookedā€ applicants  and does that mean that they are easier or harder to get into?

Thank you!

Hooked applicants are ones that a particular college wants above other similarly or even better qualified applicants – examples are: recruited athletes, children of huge donors, etc. Most applicants do not have a hook.

Whatever the case may have been last year, the RD acceptance rate at Connecticut College based on its most recent Common Data Set was 37.54%. This compares to an overall acceptance rate for that class of 38.3%.

Thank you! (its nice to know most applicants do not have a hook :pensive:) so by what @lilyesh said, its harder to get into lacs despite it not looking that way from acceptance rate, correct?

Thanks.
