Chance Me / General Feedback

Hey guys,

I just got results from the SAT yesterday, so I’ve started to think more and more about college in the past few days.

I have a 4.0 GPA and 2200 SAT (660 CR 740 M 800 W). I am a high school junior.

Aside from extracurriculars that I am working on, how do you think selective (particularly Ivy league) colleges will react to that SAT/GPA combination? How much focus should I put on the extracurricular aspect of my application, given those stats?

I appreciate all feedback.

You look like a competitive applicant. However, that 2200 is a “weak” 2200. The 660CR is below the 25th percentile for all Ivies; the 740 math is good (I’d recommend taking SAT II Math); the 800W is perfect, but most schools don’t value the writing as much (hence why the 2200 is weak).

You should focus a lot on extracurricular activities. No one at an Ivy League school is accepted solely on GPA/SAT.

@golfcashoahu Should I take the ACT?

EDIT: I certainly will take Math II, French and likely the Chemistry or Physics subject test.

Take the ACT. Your SAT is a little low for the Ivies, especially the reading section, but you can definitely bring that up in a year. How’s your course load? Based on that, your extracurriculars and an improvement to your SAT score, I think you have a chance for the Ivies.

Course load is pretty good, I will have taken nine APs by the end of this year, with some more in senior year. Also, what do you mean “improvement to your SAT score?” I had in mind that since the current SAT style is over, it’s more beneficial for me to review for the ACT, as there are a lot of sources for practice (not the case for the New SAT). Does that seem like a decent plan?

I think that is a better plan. I think you have a shot. Good luck.
