<p>Hey guys I’m new to this so go easy because I am not totally sure about the format. I looked at some posts and I think I got it down. </p>

Probably either toughest possible or generally highly advanced, despite only having taken only 7 AP’s over all of high school. </p>

<p>EC’s:
—Business development assistant at law firm (60 weeks, 16 hour week)
—Marketing intern at startup (12 weeks, 6 hour week)
—Intern at political center (26 weeks, 16 hour week)
—Volunteer on video and managing recordings at 35,000 member church (50 weeks, 14 hour week)
—Led the collection of over 5700 books for 3 libraries in Sierre Leone and Nigeria. (12 weeks, 4 hour week)
—Led students to volunteer tutor at-risk kids at youth development center (50 weeks, 5 hour week)
—Founded my FBLA club & taught financial literacy class and pitched school officials for small business idea (55 weeks, 4 hour week)
—Academic competition, it’s a small thing but I have some regional/state awards (100 weeks, 3 hour week)
—VEX robotics assistant coach and scout (24 weeks, 7 hour week)
—SEO intern with a finance website (12 weeks, 10 hour week)</p>

<p>Those are the 10 things going on my common app. I will also put some extra stuff in the additional comments thing like the summer volleyball league I’m starting for homeless people</p>

<p>So guys, what do you think my chances are for the aforementioned schools and their elite programs???</p>

<p>Everything looks great though your chances are still low for the Ivies because they’re so competitive. What time span are these ECs? Because looking at the hours per week(and they’re obviously not all at the same time) they seem to take up an astronomical amount of time per week which could make them appear less than genuine. Though they are all pretty cool:) Also the summer volleyball for the homeless seems weird. It’s good to see you’re getting involved(the plight of the homeless is too often overlooked) but why not do something with a more direct impact? Admittedly the homeless often turn to substance abuse due to boredom, but providing food, or shelter, seems like it would be more useful.</p>

<p>Yeah it’s definitely important to note that my EC’s took course over my entire high school career. Also, my junior year I had 8 classes, but I got off at 1:00 everyday because 3 were online. This gave me a ton of extra time for my political internship and my job at a law firm. You are right though - I will likely need to tone down my EC’s on my app, maybe take off a few hours to make it seem more feasible. However, I still want to take credit for what I’ve done. I’ll look to find a balance. </p>

<p>Should I make a note on the extra notes page that clarifies how I got out early and how I put my time to good use? </p>

<p>Also, we always bring the homeless people Popsicles and food and gift cards but the volleyball is the overriding theme so I put that down </p>

<p>How could you possibly work 60 weeks out of the year? (See 1st EC) Just wondering…</p>

<p>60 weeks over four years I just simplified it. It’s really 30 weeks over 2 years</p>

<p>Looking at your extracurriculars, more than half of the stuff you’ve done are internships. Internships (unless it’s at a super big/notable company) don’t really stand out on any apps. A lot of admissions officer assume that you were able to get them through family connections and whatnot. Founding a non-profit or a conference, or doing some research is looked much more favourably upon. </p>
