Chance Me: Indian Male, 3.7, 1480 SAT for BSMD programs and Pre-Med

I mean… i dont know how else to prove it. I have pictures, signed documents from the hospital, emails, and other things that can prove that I did everything stated…

How did you do all of these things in a week? And the doctors who supervised thought it was ok?

How did you write prescriptions?

on a piece of paper. just wrote OD and OS with their prescription numbers. We had a bunch of glasses with different prescriptions and we gave the one that fit the prescription.

You need a license to write a prescription.

Did the doctors allow you to conduct these exams and use their credentials?

Dude, you need to be a professional to write a prescription, on which Earth were you allowed to do this???

Please…it doesn’t matter how much documentation you have. You were doing things that are considered practicing without a license. It’s not ethical to do so. Any medical school will recognize this immediately.

The doctor who took you and allowed this…frankly is at risk of losing his or her license or at least being sanctioned for allowing this. And it doesn’t matter if it was in Kenya.

so then what did I do if I didn’t write a prescription? bc if that’s true then I gotta change the wording of my stuff.

We have been telling you all along to omit these unethical practices from your ECs. You seem to believe they will enhance your application. They won’t.

And I don’t know who your college counselor is…but I’d be finding a different one.

You need to remove it from your list asap, along with other things.

Let’s remember when we talk about licensing, etc that the student was in Kenya, not the US.

I’m not suggesting they write “ I measured 2793 hemoglobin levels with the masimo pronto and 12153 eye screenings with the ellyn welch spot screener. ”

If those are quantities, not sure how anyone does that in a week, let alone a year.

But in fairness to OP, let’s give him advice to help with his apps - which has come through clearly. But not fair to call him or his hosts liars or unethical.

Sorry for the confusion. On my actuall app, it says that I led a team… idk why it says here that I did it all.

I glanced at it. going to read it fully tonight.

I feel like the people on this forum are very nice and welcoming but if they don’t get the whole picture then they can’t help to the best of their ability. OP needs to just come down to Earth a little more and tell us what actually happened in these activities of his, and if what he says is true then I’d suggest he not add something to his app that self-incriminates him. Some activities are really amazing, like the Python project and I think he can focus on that and make them stand out but there’s really something missing here.

I think he has been misguided by adults (college counselor etc) but I also think if he writes on his application that he wrote prescriptions, he will raise lots of red flags. It doesn’t matter whether it’s here or in Kenya.

Just curious - is using a machine that calculates people’s prescriptions and writing it down on paper and giving them the correct glasses lens for their vision impairment considered writing a prescription?

No, that’s called assisting people with the prescription they were prescribed by a licensed doctor. And in my book that still would raise some red flags, why not just leave it out altogether?

Read it fully ASAP. It will help you understand the advice many of us are giving you.

You “led a team”? It says you did all of these things because you WROTE that you did all these things…and for the surgery in detail. And they eye exams, and the blood work.

Would you like to start over by listing your actual ECs as they appear on your application.

Anyway…regardless of all of this…you have a VERY top heavy list with low likelihoods of acceptance. As suggested a bunch of times, you might want to look at some colleges where your actual GPA, SAT and real accomplishments will gain you better chances of admission. Unless you are happy with your one safety school. And possibility of UGA.

When I go to the eye doctor for an exam and walk out with a prescription for new glasses, that piece of paper has the medical professionals license number and signature.

While I cannot speak for what is allowed in Kenya, I would not include any of it.

Please make a new list of your accomplishments.
