And also my essay topics

  • common app: moving to the big city alone when I was in 10th grade to do IB on scholarship at a prestigious school, challenges I faced being lower class but going to a school for rich kids
  • supplements: all of them were something along the lines of why I want to use science communication to improve my country

which school did you go to?

It’s really late for merit scholarships.

U Alabama Huntsville?
Temple?

I’m only applying for need-based financial aid since my income is well below the full-ride mark for most of these schools

I go to an international school in southeast asia

This thread is a “chance me” and, outside of NYU-AD where you have a good shot, competition for internationals who need financial aid is so fierce there’s no way anyone can predict anything. In all likelihood it’ll be between you and students who need huge amounts of financial aid. Odds are highly against you - you have everything you need to be selected, the issue will be financial. At Yale, Amherst, Princeton, and Harvard, financials will not enter the equation, but they may only take one or two students from your country with thousands applying - for South East Asian applicants, odds are about 1% (keeping in mind most applicants have stats similar to yours).
That’s why I mentioned merit aid, because this mostly depends on test scores and, to a lesser extent, GPA and EC’s.
However I’m guessing that you have better choices in your country than the merit aid choices that remain open.

Thanks for replying @MYOS1634 ! Yeah, I was thinking the same thing…but well it’s worth a shot anyway. I’m part of a minority group in my country so if anything I’ll be a nice diversity token haha!
Unfortunately, my chances in my country aren’t that great either - I only applied for one college here and it’s also ridiculously competitive, especially for the courses I chose. I’m really hoping at least one school will take me in case I don’t hit my target grade.

As I said, your odds are about 1%, so… it’s an understatement that odds are against you.

Your IB score would give you a decent shot at the scholarship.
