I’m never one to chance people, but I think you’ve done everything you can to let W&M know that you’re interested in attending, and I hope it works out for you. A summer interview, applying ED1 … those are clear signs of commitment, and I believe those are quite helpful at W&M. Per their 2023–2024 CDS, the acceptance rate for ED applications was 45% (664/1,460), which is a good bit higher than their RD acceptance rate of 32% (5,077/16,088). They also tend to accept men at a higher percentage rate than women (37% of men applicants vs 30% of women applicants).
Your GPA is lower than the typical student, but part of the point of holistic admissions is that they can consider the entire story, and I have to imagine that they would understand that moving to a new country would have an impact on your grade.
Again, I’m not in a position to offer chances, but I will say that it seems you’ve done what you can do, and you shouldn’t go into December anxious about whether you could have done something differently in regards to W&M. I think you absolutely have a shot. As an alum from there (from a while back), I can say that I would have loved to have someone with your background and interests on my freshman hall, and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that it all works out in your favor.
In terms of other schools on your list, I notice you have a lot of larger state schools, but if W&M was appealing, you might find that more mid-size schools would be appealing. Different aspects of W&M appeal to different people, but I’ve heard that people who like W&M often also like aspects of Tufts, Wake Forest, Emory, WashU, and Georgetown. Or, for schools that aren’t quite as rejective, many of the schools in this thread: “Nice person school”
No, the struggle I’m talking about is myself hhh, these schools are too expensive, especially the cost of living at LA.
Maybe I didn’t express clearly, English is not my native language
Thank you!
Thank you! Your words give me great support and warmth. I would consider applying to other similar colleges, but many of them are even more difficult to get into, and it would be almost impossible for me to get in on rd. But I will apply to Holy Cross!
UC to UC transfers are easier than OOS university transfers but priority goes to California community college transfers which make up more than 90% of the transfers accepted.
There are no course articulation agreements between the UC’s so it may be difficult to match transfer course requirements between campuses.
You’ve taken it twice? Do you have an SAT or ACT score?
William and Mary wants a minimum score of 100 on the Toefl (as do many other schools) ideally with at least 25 on each section. Can you take it again? Many schools accept IELTS and DuoLingo too. Take with your HS counselor.
Perhaps W&M will consider that your last two years of HS instruction were in English, I don’t know. I encourage you to understand what they will be looking for to maximize your chance of admission.
Here’s William and Mary’s website page with that info. Look up the requirements at each of your schools.
No, my-best-score is a special system of TOEFL, combine scores of different parts from different times of taking test. No, I don’t submit sat. I had discuss about language requirement with WM admissions office, they prefer students to get 100 (include my-best- score), but scores close to that are considered, and I know of some people who got in with scores below 100. The reason I gave up taking TOEFL again was that studying and preparing for it was too much torture for me hhh, and it brought me too much pressure, so after getting an ok score, I wanted to break free from it.
Yes, I know. The reason many US colleges have that minimum is it can be difficult for international students with relatively challenged speaking skills to succeed in college…including working in groups, advocating for themselves, doing presentations, socially, etc.
