Cost Constraints / Budget
(High school students: please get a budget from your parents and use the Net Price Calculators on the web sites of colleges of interest.)

Assuming no cost constraints and considering that you haven’t been recruited yet, I’d classify your schools as follows:

Likely:
Rutgers (EA)
UMass Amherst (EA)
Stony Brook (EA)

Lower to low probability:
Purdue (EA)
UMD (EA)

Low probability:
Georgia Tech (EA)
NYU (EA)
Illinois Urbana (EA)

We can provide additional suggestions once we know your budget.

The gpa seems low for Rutgers, but I do think they like a test score.

I’m going to be a bit more straightforward. A 3.38 unweighted GPA will not be competitive for CS at NYU (only has ED and RD), UIUC, Ga Tech, Purdue, and UMD…I would not waste the application fees.

Please do let us know your budget so we can make suggestions. It’s ok to have reaches on the list, but you want them to be attainable.

Are you being recruited at any of the schools you’ve listed, or any other schools?

I’m confused by the recruitable part - because if being recruited, it changes things. If not, I see not a single acceptance in CS.

Welcome to College Confidential, @ric38201! You have a strong SAT score (terrific in math!) and being a recruited athlete can be a significant hook in the admissions process.

Usually recruited athletes have to apply ED to the school that they’re committing to, so it’s generally not a hook that can be used at multiple campuses. Are you being recruited by any of the colleges on your list? Are you strong enough of a play to be recruited at these campuses, or would you be competitive as a player in a different division/league?

Thanks for your response!
No I am not recruited to any school as VB player.
Budget is not a problem.

So people got confused.

I think you need to find other schools. Maybe it’s a TCNJ or Rowan. You seem ok with Midwest - maybe it’s Indiana vs Purdue.
URI or UNH vs UMASS. Delaware or Temple vs Rutgers (in addition to TCNJ/Rowan). Instead of Illinois, Mizzou, KU, or WVU…or potentially Michigan State. Instead of Stony Brook, maybe Buffalo (or Temple mentioned earlier).

Keep your list but I personally think you need to add some - to ensure you have an acceptance. I don’t see one currently.

Good luck.
