What is your budget ?

$30k?
$60k?

They both can’t be. Times 4.

You say scholarship necessary. Bowdoin only has need aid so run the NPC.

Others will easily make $60k. But you say need scholarship. So what’s the budget ?

Why Mass Art ? Where does it fit in with your major and the rest.

First you need a budget b4 you can even build a list.

What can your family afford or what are they willing to pay per year?

What does Bowdoin’s NPC show? Have them fill out. If above the budget you can nix it. But there are many LACs with merit if that’s what you want (an LAC).

Are you currently a high school senior?

3.98 unweighted GPA is VERY good. To me this looks like a very small number of “-” signs after a few of your many A’s. In contrast, 1170 SAT is good, but not the same level of very good.

If you can do some SAT prep and retake this might help your chances for merit aid, although the time is tight and I am not sure of what the deadlines are for various applications.

Regardless, your excellent grades should help you a lot.

That is a pretty big range.

One daughter was offered pretty good merit aid from UVM with a GPA that was a bit lower than yours, but SAT that was quite a bit better (and the merit aid did bring it solidly into your price range). I am not sure which is more important for merit aid there. At least in our case the NPC predicted merit aid and was spot on accurate. My guess is that acceptance is likely, but getting sufficient merit aid is much more difficult to predict (except maybe by running the NPC).

I generally think that you have a good list of schools to apply to.

I am pretty sure that MassArt is SAT optional, and will not care about it much even if you submit it. Also your SAT does hit their average (exactly if I have this right), which suggests that it is not going to hurt your chances at all. Your GPA of course is excellent for MassArt.

Bowdoin is of course a reach but that is fine as long as you have solid safeties, which I think that you do.

If you are looking at NC mountain schools also check out Warren Wilson for a very small very outdoorsy very artsy very LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere. They do give scholarships. Seems to check a lot of your boxes. It’s right outside of Asheville.

You like Maine. Depending on budget, College of the Atlantic may be worth a look. Princeton Review rates its top LGBTQ friendly.

Not sure I read that in desires but another poster mentioned.
