Chance Me- Mostly Flagship universities

To preface this post, I know that these types of posts are subjective, and that there is no real way to tell whether or not I willl be accepted to any of these schools, so I’m just looking for a general idea of what you think my chances are.
Stats:
Hispanic female applying from Albuquerque New Mexico (OOS for all schools) Went to a public/charter college prep school, that was also a dual enrollment school, also all humanities classes are honors credits, and some science classes
Applied as a political science major or international affairs major at all schools
SAT- 1100 Reading-620 Math- 480 (I know this is extremely low, this was my fifth attempt so it unfortunately is my best score)
SAT Essay: 24
GPA weighted: 3.759 (also pretty low, but not very inflated)
Unweighted GPA: unknown
School rank: 24/81
AP’s: English & lang comp, score: 3 (my school did not begin to offer AP until my junior year)
Recommendations: I waved my right to read them, but I imagine that the recommendation from my debate coach is very good, and the required one from my counselor is also good, but not amazing.
Essays: Certainly not anything incredible, but pretty substantial
Extracurriculars (probably the strongest part of my application):
President 2 years in a row of the Model United Nations club at my high school, Grades 10, 11, & 12
Speech and debate, national qualifier in 2017, Grades 9, 10, 11, 12,
Student Council, chosen to attend the State conference 2 years in a row, chaired multiple committees, Grades 10, 11, 12
Youth and Government, grades 10, 11, 12
National Honors Society- over 80 hours of community service, grades 11 & 12
Student Representative for my school’s governing council, (Only student Rep) -11 & 12
Part time job: Cashier/sales associate, about 10-15 hours a week
Awards: Deans list, High honors all of high school
Schools:
North Carolina State
Uconn
Umass Amherst
University of Vermont
University of New Hampshire
Temple University
University of Florida
Appalachian state

Again these are my general stats, if you need anymore information please let me know, I really appreciate your candor and help. The main reason I’m posting this is because my test scores are extremely low, and I definitely realize that and am pretty realistic about whats gonna happen.

Hi NM student. I live in MA for the record so I know a ton about the northeast schools u chose. Let me break this down.

First off, your Extr@ curriculurs are great. Your SAT I will admit (as a fellow classmate) are slightly lower than a couple of the schools you are hoping for. However, that does NOT mean you will be denied from these schools. Being a latina is a good thing and also is being out of state. Even better, your debate and UN are both prized extras. Same with having a job (I got one too). U florida will be tough to get into as its a great State school. I think you have a good shot at all of these schools, and I am willing to bet you get in at least a few. Now ready for some school specific advice?

I applied to UMass Amherst out of those schools and I was able to get into honors college. UMass is a great school I’ve been there 5+ times for bball, science event, etc. And if you like to eat, they have the best food in the country (rated by several sites). If you want to know more about Umass let me know.

A few friends applied to UF and UVM. Personally (this just me) I didn’t like UVM as much as UMass as I think Amherst has better programs, food and campus. UF is a great state school but they have tough SAT requirements.

UConn is a really nice school as well and there are a ton of great things to do in the area and around UConn.

I encourage you to tour whatever school you plan on going upon admission but let me know if you have any other questions about anything I mentioned, as I am probably the guy to talk to when it comes to northeast state schools.

Thank you for the help! I really appreciate it (:

Can you afford out of state tuition at all these out of state public schools if you are admitted? Do you have an in-state safety?

yeah I’ve applied and been accepted to schools in New Mexico, as well as affordable schools apart of the Western Undergraduate Exchange

You know that none of those OOS publics are likely to give you financial aid, right?

Do you know how much these schools will cost you, as you won’t get FA or merit? How much CAN you pay?

@katelynkey UMass amherst will generally give good financial aid compared to other OOS schools. I wouldn’t stress i too much try using the estimated cost calculator for each school if you want. UMass was able to cover almost all of my need, can’t speak for other schools because I did not apply there.

Thanks, right now I’m just trying to understand my chances of getting in before I worry about the cost.

That’s the wrong way to look a this situation, have the money talk first and then craft your list. Understand that WUE is no bargain and that maybe you should consider what your local CC options are with a view to transferring later. Are you sure your parents are going to pay for you to go OOS? 4 yr? As you know your stats won’t help you. What do your stats do for you at your local instate 4 yr? Will you qualify for FA?

@Guapo_Trill You live in MA – that is why you got good aid. State universities give good aid to their residents because they are supported by the taxpayers of that state. Those from other states can expect little or no FA.

The OP should run the NPC on the website of every college on their list if they haven’t already. I assume applications are already in to them all, but if not, don’t submit any more to colleges if they don’t look affordable when you run the NPC. No point in spending the money to apply and send test scores and all that.

As a student from New Mexico you’re eligible for WUE discounts… but you’re likely to pay FULL OUT OF STATE TUITION at Vermont, Connecticut and the other eastern/southern schools. That’s up to $55,000+ each and every year.

thanks @intparent

@katelynkey if you want to predict how much schools cost check here. if you click on the school you can find out how much it might cost you. There are always outside scholarships you can get or join a program like ROTC:
