You won’t believe me- but it’s really OK to just get a summer job if one of these programs doesn’t come through for you. Really OK.

Camp counselor, answering phones at a dentist’s office, scooping ice cream, gift shop at the local zoo, shelving books at the library.

Anything that shows a modicum of gumption, organizational and people skills, showing up on time.

You don’t have to “prove” that you’re already on track for your career at the age of 17. Just show that you’re responsible, get along with all kinds of people, and know how to do an honest days work…
