Thanks!
I think it depends on which school you would like to go to. They are all very different in terms of admissions selectivity. I’ll come out and say I don’t think you have a shot at Medill, but you might have a shot at Weinberg. Your GPA is great, obviously, considering the context of your course load. I think your SAT score is good enough to be competitive at Weinberg, but raising wouldn’t hurt either. Your ec’s seem to be okay, but they lack a focus. What is your intended major? What do you hope to accomplish with your life? For example, I too have a black belt, but I quit karate when I was 12 after taking it for eight years, and I am not even listing it on my Common App Activities section. (Though I may list it in the Additional Information section.) Also, the fact that you have 10 years of ballroom dance but only one season on the dance team (as well as success a long time ago) may not rub off the right way, but then again I don’t know much about you. I suppose you should talk about the part-time job because it seems to be relevant. I can’t be very accurate about this, but since you are applying ED, I’d say you are a low-high reach. Please chance me back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1796275-what-do-you-think-of-my-chances-are-at-these-universities.html#latest Good luck!
As far as I’ve heard from many different private schools as well as counselors, admission into a specific school does not have anything to do with your admission into the university, however I’m not sure about that, you might be totally right. As of now, I’d like to major in communications and pursue a career in marketing, but quite honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if I changed my mind after my first year or two in college. I see what you mean about the ECs, so I guess the only thing appealing about them is long-term commitment aspect of it all. I really appreciate your input
@rgreens Actually, I am 100% sure it does, at least for Northwestern. Medill chool of Journalism only accepts around 200 students each year (being one of the highest rated/competitive journalism schools in the country, while Weinberg takes in 65% of the accepted class. That is a difference of a few several thousand. And yeah, maybe they will see long-term. Who knows? And no problem about the input.
