I’m currently in my junior year with a 3.36 unweighted and 4.0 weighted. I’m mostly an A/B student but more so B. Taking AP Lang and APUSH and passing with a C+ and B
Though I believe I’m improving, just worried about my gpa and how those classes affect it. I’ve taken AP Art History (didn’t pass the exam) and AICE General Paper passing with A’s and B’s but mostly A’s. Next year I’m taking
AP Psych,
AP Human Geo,
and AP Lit.
I’m also Vice President of Feminism Club (going to be president senior year), a member of Philosophy Honors Society (hoping to get an officer position senior year), a member of Habitat for Humanity, and will apply for NHS this year which I qualify for. I have an interest in social issues and humanities. I understand I am above average but not above average enough. Taking the SAT in March and hoping to score at least a 1300 but I’m pessimistic. Could my essay in the application higher my chances? Can they look beyond grades? I’m just so worried
I really want to do well and I know I struggle and am not as great as everyone else. Please respond with honesty! If NYU or BU seem like a possibility or a reach please let me know and maybe comment additional colleges!
your GPA needs a significant boost and you need to substantiate your resume with more influential extracurriculars. You can’t really predict what you’ll get on the SAT but I would definitely add some safety schools and leave NYU and BU as high reaches. If there are extenuating circumstances as to why your grades are not as good as they could be, you can include that in your application, but you can’t change what you already got. The best you can do is try to improve, but junior year grades are the ones that impact your application the most.
