BASIC INFO:
upper middle class white female
currently a junior
school is fairly competitive public school (top 30 in my state, and top 1500 in the country)
TESTS:
SAT: 1550 (780 math, 770 english, planning to retake with essay)
ACT: 34 composite (36 english, 36 reading, 31 math, 31 science, 10 essay)
those are both first sitting scores. i plan to retake both to potentially superscore a little higher, especially since my sat was the in school one.
SAT II: haven’t taken any yet, but i plan on maybe doing math ii and english. possibly physics, bio, or french as well.
GRADES:
RANK: my school doesn’t rank other than valedictorian, salutatorian, and essayists at the end of senior year
GPA: 3.55 UW, 4.25 weighted
AP’s: none freshman/sophomore year because they’re not offered unless you do wayyyyyy accelerated art which is not what i’m looking to do. apush & physics 1 junior year. physics c, comp sci, french, english lit, calc bc, and macro senior year. i plan on self studying for a few more.
COLLEGE CLASSES: auditing cs50 through edx but idk if that counts for anything, many ap classes in my school count for college credit through this weird semi dual enrollment program we have.
i know my grades are my weak point, but i have never taken a class lower than the highest one offered. videlicet, if there was an honors or ap option for a class, i immediately opted for that, even if it wasn’t my strongest subject. this brought down my uw gpa quite a bit. reasoning behind me going for the harder classes is that i like to challenge myself ¯_(ツ)_/¯. for example, i didn’t do too well in physics 1 but i was one of the 5 out of ~275 juniors who chose to take it this year (it’s usually a senior class). also i’ve chosen not to have a lunch since part of the way through my sophomore year so i could take more classes. this is something that few to no people in my school do. idk if any of this has any weight, but i figured i’d mention it.
(as another side note, i’ve never gotten anything on my transcript below a b until this year with one b-. idk if that’s better or worse than having one glaringly bad grade.)
ECs:
founder/president of creative writing club (sophmore-senior year)
editor of literary magazine (member sophomore year, disbanded junior year, editor senior year)
member of young dems (could be president senior year)
member of gsa (freshman-senior year)
editor of school newspaper (sophomore-senior year)
webmaster for gains (women in science club)
cofounder and leader of violence to voices (gun violence group. this is a pretty big time commitment–we have organized multiple rallies and might campaign for a local politician as a group.)
hercampus high school ambassador
student ambassador for two conferences related to women in stem in my area
played soccer all four years (freshman team freshman year, jv for junior/sophomore, varsity for senior)
fenced all four years (novice team freshman year, jv sophomore, varsity junior/senior) (another note on fencing: i’m a competitive fencer. i placed in my jv tournament and i fence outside of my school team despite only picking up the sport freshman year. i’m pretty much a shoe-in for captain as well.)
fall play (varying roles, but freshman-senior year)
spring musical (varying rules, freshman-senior year)
student-produced spring production (sophomore year, might be a director senior year)
varsity math team (junior-senior year)
founder/leader of a fencing intramural for the middle school (junior-senior year)
attended neywc (competitive writing conference)
i run a weekly blog (from middle school-probably forever)
i applied to nhs (very competitive at my school) but i don’t know if i got in yet
obviously this is my strong point. i think i covered everything, but i could have a few more one-off activities. i added senior year for a lot of these because i expect to do them into my senior year. i plan on also starting a branch of mu alpha theta, joining programming club, and maybe doing some tutoring into senior year.
VOLUNTEERING:
volunteered at a local arts festival
shelved at local library
buddy for soccer with kids with special needs
helped run blood drives at my school
RECS:
i only have one lined up right now, but it’s my comp sci teacher who also happens to be my fencing coach. i expect a fairly good rec from him because i have close to a 100% average in his class. obviously there’s my guidance counselor, but idk how good that will be. i’m not sure who i’m going to have do my other one yet.
ESSAYS:
this will be a strong point for me considering i am a writer. i haven’t had anyone read them yet, but i’m fairly confident that they’ll be at least okay.
AWARDS:
placed 8th in jv fencing tournament
bronze medal for le grand concours (nationwide french test) sophomore year
pto english award (freshman year)
excellence in english award (freshman year)
selected to participate in french declamation contest (junior year)
idk about national merit stuff for the moment
POTENTIAL MAJOR:
double major cs/english, possible minor in journalism
