I’m a white middle class male about to go into my senior year, by the end I will have taken six AP classes. I plan on continuing my upward trend by getting 3.8-4.0 in my senior year. I want to know some chances for the following and suggestions for safeties:

Grinnell
Boston University
GMU
Kenyon
Case
Bard
Carleton
Denison
Wesleyan

Unweighted GPA:
Freshman - 3.0
Sophmore - 3.3
Junior - 3.6
Weighted GPA: Not given at my school
Class Rank: No ranking
Class Size: 102

SAT I Scores:
630 (Critical Reading), 610 (Writing), 650 (Math)
SAT II:
US History: 700
Gov: 750
Math I: 690

extracurriculars:
- Speech and Debate (captain next year) (10-12)
- National Qualifier in Junior year
- State qualifier two years, finalist one year
- Culinary Club (10-12)
- Yearbook (9-12)
- School Paper (10-12)
- SHOUT against tobacco (10-12)

Also, does anyone have a suggestion of where I would have the best chances at for applying ED/EA?

Grinnell–match
Boston University–safe match to match
GMU–match
Kenyon–match (toughest call–could also be match to slight reach)
Case Western–match
Bard–match to slight reach
Carleton–slight reach
Denison–match
Wesleyan–safe match to match

So, in other words, I expect you to get into every one of these except Carleton–and possibly Bard and Kenyon.

Best of success.

I’m sorry, but I think the previous posters chances are far too generous. I don’t know all of these schools very well, but with your weak (by CC standards) scores and GPA, and no extraordinary ECs, there are a couple I can pin as definitely problematic.

Carleton I would consider a major reach, as is Wesleyan, assuming you mean the one in CT (that is the one I would consider “Wesleyan”…if you meant another school of the same name, I would suggest specifying.) For both of these schools, your SATs are under the 25% mark, just to give a gauge.

Grinnell would also be a reach, as would Bard and Kenyon…not to the same degree as the other two schools, but still reaches.

BU and Denison, and I suppose Case, could be considered matches.

I was giving chances for Wesleyan College in Macon, GA.

If you are referring to Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, then yes, your chances are a slight reach to reach.

By the way, for a school like Grinell, the average GPA is about a 3.6 unweighted with SAT scores of 684/683, and since the OP has a GPA of about 3.45 unweighted with a rising trend and SAT scores of that are below this for the SAT I (630/650) but above this for SAT IIs (700/750) (they approximately balance) and better than average ECs, I’m curious why pinnipotto thinks the chances are so far off. Maybe that Wesleyan chance (not realizing I was referring to a different Wesleyan) threw pinnipotto off.

BTW, the 25% chances at Grinnell are 640/650–so maybe match to slight reach is more realistic than the “match” I gave.

(P.S. Keep in mind that 50% of those accepted to these schools will have totals below the averages–though, they should of course be close to the averages to have a chance).

Also, as you can see, an additional 50 to 100 SAT points would help tremendously–so taking the SAT one more time should be on your agenda.

“P.S. Keep in mind that 50% of those accepted to these schools will have totals below the averages–though, they should of course be close to the averages to have a chance.”

those who scored below average are URMs, athletes, etc… if you’re white and has avg. ecs. you need to score above 75% to consider a match.

Grinnell–reach
Boston University–high match
GMU–match
Kenyon–low reach
Case Western–high match/low reach
Bard–high match
Carleton–high reach
Denison–match
Wesleyan–high reach/reach

agree more with collegeprep than calcruzer

no real outstanding ECs hurts you, but i think you have a chance… where do you live? for grinell it helps a LOT if youre from a coast and not the midwest…

Well, I live in northeast ohio. So I guess that doesn’t help me any.

What do you guys think about applying ED to Grinnell? I think as of now that would be my #1 choice and applying ED would just give me better chances.

Any ideas?

vvtf? Am I missing something?

Grinnell slight reach?
Boston University In @ CGS, reach @ CAS/SMG
GMU safe
Kenyon high Reach
Case low match
Bard low reach
Carleton reach
Denison low reach
Wesleyan high reach
