Chance me, please? (especially for Harvard SCEA)

hi guys, could you all please chance me for all the ivies (HYP, cornell, columbia, upenn, brown, dartmouth), MIT, Stanford, Boston University, Northwestern, Rice and WashU? I’m a rising a senior, and hecka nervous. I really love Harvard (visited multiple times), and I’m looking to apply there SCEA so any input would be utmost helpful…

Here are my stats:
-Female
-Race: Asian
-Intended major: biomedical engineering or public health (or both??)

GPA: 3.91 unweighted, 4.45-4.5? weighted
ACT: 36

AP’s:

  • AP World - 4
  • AP Calc AB - 5
  • AP Gov- 5
  • AP Bio - 3
  • AP Lang - 5

Senior Year Courses:

  • AP Stats
  • AP Psychology
  • AP Chem
  • AP Spanish

Awards:
I’ve never won any major like AMC math or physics Olympiad awards or stuff like that. But, I do a lot of work in substance abuse prevention, so I’ve been selected for a national youth ambassador position (does that count?). I’ve also been selected to attend two national tobacco/health conferences, one of which I gave a poster presentation at. I’ve also gotten some state-level recognition for my work in tobacco control policy. I was also selected to attend MUNUC, which is this international Model UN conference in Chicago. Outside of that, I’ve won small stuff like AP Scholar, PVSA gold, National Merit commended, and school awards, but nothing else worth mentioning. Do these all count as “awards”?

Activities/Extracurriculars:
-President and Founder of the SADD Chapter at my school
-Vice President of Model UN
-Chair of the National Tobacco 21 Youth Coalition
-Youth Leader on the Tobacco 21 St. Louis Metro Coalition (I was the main student representative on the coalition that raised the legal age of tobacco sale from 18 to 21 in various cities throughout Missouri. I got to speak at the press conference and I’ve done a lot of background work and advocating at the capitol).
-President of Tobacco Free Missouri Youth

  • Did summer research (biomedical engineering) at SLU Med School and wrote a research paper too (~250 hours)
  • Internship at Arch Chinese Learning Services (4 years now, i help develop new programs and marketing aspects of the website, like I designed the new logo. I’ve also worked with schools that have purchased memberships, and I’ve actually gotten my name published in a Princeton textbook for helping out with integrating Arch Chinese worksheets into the textbook)
-Volunteer at local hospital in CT/Radiology department (~200 hours)
  • Teacher aided/tutored math at my local Chinese school (~150 hours)

My essay writing is a bit mediocre so I’m kinda worried about that, but I’d first like to know where I stand stats-wise. I know my GPA has got to be the weak point in my application and I haven’t won any “real” awards.

So please, wonderful people, out of the goodness of your hearts, chance me. Much love from a clueless, slightly panicky student.

P.S. As I mentioned above, I’ve given a poster presentation at a national tobacco and health conference in Texas and I didn’t know this until recently, but it’s actually a published research poster under the Family Medicine Department at the University of Missouri. Is that something I could mention somewhere or add it as a supplement?

The ivies are a reach for you, just like they are for everyone else. You have pretty good scores and ECs; just make sure that your community service work in your essays!

you mention* your community service work in your essays r i p gramma

You will be compared with the toughest demographic for both GPA and Scores–Asian females. I’d say you have to break out of the mold, and distinguish yourself in some way to get noticed. I don’t see anything here. Take time to think about what makes you uniquely awesome. Of course like anyone else, you need to identify reach, match and safety schools you’d be happy to attend. Good Luck. You have awesome stats, but I don’t see any hooks, and awesome stats alone are not enough.

your grades and scores are awesome. your ECs also show much passion on tobacco prevention, public health issues, etc. Your volunteer experience is excellent too. Now, as for Harvard, even strong candidates like you aren’t guaranteed admissions, which is such a shame. But your application should come across very strongly during the review process. Apply EA! best of luck!

I don’t get chance me threads. The information is online and Harvard is a reach for everyone. Just continue to do well and show Harvard that they need you and hope for the best. You never know what will happen.
