Chance Me Please, Hard Working Average Student

I’m hoping that most colleges can look past my somewhat mediocre GPA, and look at my hard work and decent GPA when deciding my fate.

Resume:

3.1 GPA
1200 (1800) SAT

Work 20 hours a week as a busser, at a very high scale restaurant, Chianti Ristoranti in Saratoga Springs, NY ( have served such celebrities as Alec Baldwin, the Jacksons, many famous jockeys due to the race course)

Played 2 years of Varsity soccer (1 completed so far), played on my schools first Section winning team ever. We play Class AA which is the highest class in New York, so it was an achievement just to be part of the team)

Also play club soccer year round, as well as being part of the high school track team.

Taking all of these into account, my schedule is very busy.

I handle myself very well, and if I get an interview I feel like I could sway the admissions counselor, or whomever.

I also know my major, and will be applying early decision.

UC Santa Barbara
UC Davis
Cal Poly Pomona
Cal Poly State
University of San Diego

Virginia Tech
Virginia Commonwealth University

I understand that some of these are reaches, so please tell me what I can due to better my chances of acceptance.

ED is typically binding. To which one are you applying?

USD: Reach
UCD: Reach
UCSB: Low reach/high match
Pomona: High match

By Cal Poly State, do you mean SLO? If so, that’s a reach. Can’t speak as to the other two.

To get in, you’re going to want to raise that SAT score. It’s not too shabby, but it needs to be well above average to sway an admissions counselor off your grades. Perhaps take the ACT?

Your ECs are of an okay caliber (good job, a few sports) but there aren’t enough of them. Maybe add one or two activities in areas that will give you some balance.

And on a personal note, my aunt lives in Saratoga Springs! I love that place; I’m actually looking at Bennington, which is fairly nearby.

Good luck with your app! Work hard and write strong essays, you should probably make it into at least one of your schools.

Chance back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1118399-chance-theatre-acting-inclined-junior-ill-chance-you-back.html

Thank you!

And yes, i did mean Cal poly in San Luis Obispo.

Also, if you choose to go there, you would love Bennington. Great town, and it is within driving distance of Montreal, New York City, and Boston.
