HI I’m Ellie, Hispanic (Cuban) female originally from Miami, Florida, but living and going to school in West Palm Beach, looking for someone to chance me for Early Decision 1 NYU for the Gallatin School of Individualized Study.

Firstly, I go to a competitive arts school, Dreyfoos, and you have to audition to get in. My major is classical piano performance, and I was very involved in extracurriculars in piano, though I don’t plan on majoring or minoring in music in college.

My unweighted GPA is a little over 3.6, my weighted GPA is 4.4
My super score for the SAT is 2130 (650 critical reading, 680 math, 800 writing)

I took AP human geography my freshman year (3)
AP world (not reporting score lol) and AP English Language (5) sophomore year
AP United States History (4) as a junior
Senior year, I’m taking AP Government & AP Micro, AP English Literature, AP Statistics, and AP Art History.
I’ve taken all Honors and AP classes throughout my high school career.
4 years of Spanish.
I took honors biology, honors chemistry, and honors physics.
Honors geometry, honors algebra 2, honors pre-calculus

Freshman year, during my first semester, I got almost all A’s. Second semester I got almost all B’s.
My sophomore year, I got mostly B’s with a few A’s.
Junior year, I got straight A’s throughout the year.

Since my school is competitive, I am only in the top 25% of my class. I know NYU reports that most of its incoming freshmen are in the top 10% of their class…

My common essay had to do with describing the neighborhood in Miami where my grandparents live, and talking about the interconnected relationship between the divinity of natural landscape, the ocean, and the unconditional love of family.

My “Why NYU?” essay talked about me wanting to attend Gallatin because of my unique interest in social and cultural documentary filmmaking and creative writing on the side. (I talked about my plan to become a documentary filmmaker as well as a freelance writer.) I also plan on learning French and Korean, and have started self studying Korean. (I elaborated on all of these in my essay.)

I only had 193 hours of community service, but a lot of it had to do with arts programs at my school.

I am President of the Environmental Society at my school. I am also in National Honors Society and National English Honors Society. I’ve been awarded 2 school-related awards, one in music composition and the other in physics.

I only have one teacher recommendation, from my AP United States history teacher, but it was an AMAZING recommendation. (She let me read it.)
My guidance counselor also wrote an INCREDIBLE recommendation because she got to know me really well the couple months before she wrote it.

Please chance me, I would like to know, realistically, if I have a shot of getting in. NYU is my dream school. I took two classes over the summer in filmmaking and creative writing, and I really fell in love with both the city and the university.

I am very nervous that my stats won’t be high enough for NYU. I would like to have opinions of other people. Thank you <3 <3 <3
