Hook(s): First gen student

First of all you sound very bright, however Bowdoin gets a lot of applications from Maine residents and I am not sure that first generation Asian is so unusual in the applicant pool. If you play at least one varsity sport there, it would help. That said, I think your academics are strong and that you would have an even better chance at other fine schools outside Maine, even without varsity sports.

Not so fast – Bowdoin seeks and likes Maine students - if anything they get a preference. A first generation Asian from Maine is likely to be an attractive applicant . .

which one should i listen to?

Me of course. Bowdoin has a long history of favoring Maine applicants. From the [Bowdoin Orient (student newspaper) in the past year](http://orient.bowdoin.edu/orient/article.php?date=2010-11-12&section=1&id=2):

“President Barry Mills said that the College gives preference to legacy applicants just as it does to students of diverse racial and geographic backgrounds in its efforts to shape a class. ‘Just like we put our finger on the scale for students from Maine, [and for] all different kinds of students in admissions, we put our finger on the scale for legacies,’ he said.”

So is bowdoin a in for me?
