Please chance me

Try taking the SAT again, or take the ACT because some people do relatively better on that. Also try and get great grades this semester to boost the GPA and show an upward trend. If you can do that and write solid essays (have them proofread by a teacher) about why you want to go to UChicago, I think you have a good shot. Being black will help you tremendously haha… just saying it like it is. Good luck and I hope to see you next year!

Bad. I mean, you have the URM and first generation, but your SATs are terribly low (1240/1600) and you don’t seem to have any sort of ECs to trump that.

I hate chance threads for pretty obvious reasons, but I’d like to point out that your SAT scores are respectable. Don’t let people put them down. Your GPA is pretty great, honestly. And do try taking the ACT, as UofC “prefers” that anyway; that’s just the more typical test for the university.

However, universities probably won’t care about your backgrounds (6, 7, and 8; they might know about them due to the common app, minus your economic background) unless you incorporate them into a heartfelt essay. Beware, though, that it’s not enough to just talk about them - you’ll come off as woe-is-me - and you must discuss how you’ve overcome these challenges or how they have shaped you into who you are. And that’s if you choose to write about them.

And as usual, I’ll suggest parchment.com, which is not based off of other people’s opinions (as cruel and/or misleading as they can be) but rather actual data of admitted, attending, and rejected students for many universities (including UofC).
Goodluck!

I’ve been increasingly realizing that stats and essays USUALLY have less weight in the college admissions process than people say. In my opinion, it’s just up to whether or not you’re the type of person they want at that school, and whether you’re a match or not. In other words, your answers to questions like: Do you like learning above all else? Would you be happy with a few Bs in college? Do you like to party? How much are you into sports? Chances are that if there’s a reason you’re applying besides the name, you’ll get in. Of course Academics come first though, and that said yours are good but could be better. Take the ACT, like the above posters said, submit it, and stop worrying about it, because if you keep worrying about it, your lack of confidence will show in the essays and you’ll get rejected (yeah, awful, I know). If you cannot resolve this, your best bet is to ‘Frankenstein’ together essay from other schools, or start writing things RESEMBLING the UChicago prompts but never think about UChicago itself while writing them.

if you are obama’s uncle i’d think that you have as good of a shot as anyone, but wouldn’t you be a little too old for college? :P

How do I look for regular decision admission? I was deferred early action
but that was before these sat scores (December). And ill probably interview. Thank you!
