Chance me please

Hey!

I’m becoming a senior this August and have to start applying soon. I really want to go to UBC, but my SAT scores are low and I’m kinda screwed. I’m applying for media studies Vancouver campus.

GPA (unweighted): 3.9
APs: AP Language (5), AP World HIstory (4), AP Stats (will take it this year)
Service Hours: 120 hours up till now
–part of church band
–volunteer at mission work
–Awana volunteer
Leadership: Excom (secretary junior year & senior year)
SAT: 1270 (will take it again this year)
Other activities:
– school broadcast team
– smth like Humans of New York on fb (part of crew since June)
–Tutoring @ home (piano + English)
–TA

that’s about it. am i really screwed or do i have at least a little bit of chance? what can i do to raise my chance?

Thank you!

As you already recognize, your SAT is your biggest weak point. Work on bringing that up by studying for the SAT and it will help your chances. Also make sure your essay-writing skills are strong and that you have topics from your ECs and personal stories you can elaborate on in the written part of your application to make you a more compelling candidate.

I agree with the poster above me getting that SAT score up should be a priority. Your EC’s are alright volunteering is pretty generic so try to talk about your other experiences.
