No I was just wondering - Im actually against chance threads  - but just was wondering since evryone was doing it :)

that’s only 2 schools… so… joke…

:/
Sorry, mate.

np - i know that no one knows how to get into any school except try ur best, but i guess I will just wait and see - just wondering if anyone had heard of getting into higher ranked schools after getting waitlisted at these - im not seeking any comfort

yes you are seeking comfort

I’m from west Texas too—El Paso. Where are you from?

Odessa, TX

you guys can think whatever u want but a waitlist is a waitlist - i deserved it, just as I deserve a reject or accept somewhere else - i mite have brought up the wrong meaning through what i said - i apologize

what do you mean you deserved it?

^ he did what he could to deserve his waitlisting? Maybe.

odessa? isnt that where friday night lights is based on?

My very good friend was rejected from UCLA and UPen, and got accepted to Stanford. It’s a strange school as far as admissions goes - they pick from a lot of factors. The reason I love Stanford is because they take into consideration how the graduating class will look and feel - where they’re coming from, how well rounded it is, etc.

You come from somewhere that isn’t machine produced, I can’t tell you that anything “helps” your chances but I can tell you that college acceptances have no relationship. Anyone who tells you they do doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Student acceptances are case by case.

Until they tell you no, you have no reason to think someone of your prowess doesn’t have a chance.

Thanks tigereyes for the info - that is what i was wondering really… Whether they are case by case… - actually this prob shouldnt be a chance thread at all lol

And yes Friday Night Lights was taken in Odessa - Permian High School

But i go to Odessa High School!

OP, I’m not trying to stress you out more, because I actually would like to believe the same thing Tigereyes said. BUT. I know a girl who got into all top 20 schools she applied to–yes, all of HYPSM, ivies, you name it. Based on that alone, I wonder how random college admissions really CAN be.

I wish you all the best on Wednesday (not Tuesday, i forgot this is Stanford, not ivies lol)!!

^Tuesday???

Yeah admissions are ridiculous. LIke tons of people from my school got rejected from schools like UCSD and UCSB(and these are all >3.5 GPA people with good ECs and overall decent essays). One kid from a neighboring school got into Stanford early and got rejected from UCLA : /

With the stories from the “early regular admits” which is a category I didn’t even know existed, it sounds like individual professors or departments can take a liking to your application and choose you. How random is that? I don’t actually mind the process because it will make for a very interesting mix of people but I do hate the waiting. Even with a strong back-up plan that makes me happy, it feel like I can’t just settle down and be happy until i get this final answer and let go (or embrace) the “Stanford Dream”.
