What state? If it is NJ or NY your stats are too low with a curriculum that would be deemed non-rigorous to be accepted for fall 10. If you are from Iowa, you have a better chance.

You are from a state that they do not have many students from, unlike NJ/NY…UMDCP is trying to expand their national status. Your stats are within IS range, low for NJ, but to expand they need people like you from other states.

You are looking to get in basically as general admittance, not Smith, Clark or Merrill, that helps your odds.

The only thing that hurts is you have 1 AP. State systems are different, thus for Illinois it may be pretty tough in VA or NC, the way the system works 1 AP would not be deemed rigorous. UMD will look at the school background and deem it in their manner.

I suggest this to every student applying, pay for an extra sealed transcript. People believe that your transcript is just your personal course load, class ranking, GPA, SAT and ACT. IT IS NOT. Inside it tells (at least for VA and NC), those items, but then breaks down the school profile, including how many go 4 yr private, 4 yr IS, 4 yr OOS, 2 yr, trade and no additional education. It states the programs, such as AP/IB and ICSCE and how many APs they offer. The schools use this info to see how rigorous of a class load you carry compared to your peers, in other words if they have 10 APs and you have only 1, that is not going to be viewed as rigorous as the kid with 6APs. How the high school ranks I.E. you can be #8 in a class of 400, but 0% go to Ivies and be rejected, while the other student who is #20 in a class of 200 is accepted because 10% go Ivy.

The ACT/SAT is only a part of the equation the gpa and APs are the other part. He is applying from OOS, for a tate university that only takes 25-30% from OOS, including international, thus for OOS it can be much more competitive than IS.
