CHANCE ME (please?)

GPA: 89 weighted, 88 unweighted (My school’s weighting system is really weird)
Also, I have a strong upward trend. Took all honors through highschool, 2 AP’s last year, 3 this year (senior).

SAT: 2100 (610 Math, 700 Reading, 790 writing)

AP Exam Scores: 5 on Eng, 4 on APUSH

ACT: 30

I am in the top half of my class. I go to an extremely competitive public school in CT.

ECs:
Habitat for Humanity (Building Projects) , Mentoring (3 separate programs, all 4 years of high school), Hospital Volunteering (40 hours), Full time job (20-40 hours/week all summer), Spanish Club, History Club, School Newspaper (This year I’m copy editor), Swimming & Diving (2 years JV), Rowing (2 years JV/V), Worked with kids with down syndrome for 2 years.

thank you so much  also, i’m applying to CAS RD.

bump…

bumpbumpbump anyone? please… im desperate? :(

you should have a good chance. Your SAT/ACT scores are in the range for CAS, although to strengthen your application you might want to take either or both of the tests again. You have pretty good extracurriculars. An 89 weighted is around like a B+/A- so that should be alright. I guess since you have taken some AP’s and a lot of honors that’s pretty challenging, so:

you’re not a shoe-in, but if I had to guess, I’d say you would get in, but make sure to write a strong essay and maybe think about taking the SAT/ACT again. Good luck!

Here’s the Reality:

-SAT score is 1310; Reading is very good, but Math is too low. I’m sorry to brake it to you, but NYU (and most schools) doesn’t care about the writing section. Be honest with yourself and say 1310/1600; cuz that’s what’s important. I know it sux, but its the reality.
-88 gpa is not good for NYU. NYU average GPA is approx. 91/92.
-EC’s have breadth but no depth- as in, you’re not a leadership postiion on any of those clubs except one. Leaderhsip is what they lok for, so i’de rate ur EC’s as average. Although the job helps alittle.
-solid AP scores.
-but there is one huge upside: ur rigirous curriculum(which they care aton about). To take all either Honors/AP’s is very important and just may be the factor which get syou in.

OVERALL: low-mid reach. mainly cuz of SATmath, and gpa.

Your extracurricular a bit weak - especially your hospital volunteering? 40 hours?
That’s like how much I do in like two weeks. Also you are just members of a lot of clubs, and your GPA is pretty weak. SAT is pretty average imo.

I really wouldn’t say my GPA is weak considering my coarse load, and thanks for insulting my ECs, phwool. I’m all for honesty, but there is no need to be rude.

Everyone else - thanks! :)
