PLEASE CHANCE ME – MUCH APPRECIATED!!
I am international student, currently in private HS. I come from a low income family, so I can prob afford like 15K/year. My intended major is Computer Science, and I applied ED1 to NYU.
I put NYU Abu Dhabi as my first choice, and NYU Manhattan as my 2nd.
My IB predicted grades are 43/45. My school does not do ranking at all. I am waived for English Proficiency tests, and I’m doing test optional for SAT/ACT.
My IB classes:

  • HL: compsci, psychology, art
  • SL: math, eng langlit, mandarin ab initio
    I will be graduating w around 30 credits (4 for english, 4 for science, 4 for social studies, 5 for math, 5 for art, 6 for foreign language, 1 for pe).

regarding awards, i have 4 scholastic keys (1 gold, 3 silver) and 3 honorable mentions. I also have an in-school award for community service.

For my ecs, I got student government, a few clubs, teaching english, photography (as a hobby), self-taught web development, school newspaper, and mun. I also had an unpaid internship at a local restaurant. I think my ECs are pretty mid, and i dont have lots of leadership, so i’d rate it 5/10.

I would rate my essays for CommonApp & NYU a solid 8/10. My LORs I would say a 8.5-9/10.

Like I said earlier, I applied ED1 to NYU, w the Abu Dhabi campus as my first choice, and Manhattan as my 2nd. Ppl have been saying that NYUAD is more selective, but they give better aid for international students, so I decided to put it as my first choice. I personally prefer NYC over Abu Dhabi, but NYU NYC is need-aware for int student.

What are my chances of getting into NYUAD? What are my chances of not getting into NYUAD but ACCEPTED to NYU Manhattan?

I am also applying to Case Western Reserve University (EA), Illinois Tech (EA), and Stevens Institute of Tech (EA) w the same stats, so I’d be rlly grateful if u could chance me for those as well. But NYU is more important rn!! THANK YOUUUUUU <333

Applying ED means you will go to that school if accepted. With a 15K financial limit you will need a lot of aid which may not be provided. It’s too late now but with Abu Dhabi actually provide 100% need?

Keeping that in mind — have you run the calculators for Case Western, Illinois Tech, and Stevens? Because I don’t know what level of financial support they provide. It’s one thing to get in, but if you can’t afford it – it’s still a No.

It sounds to me like you are a very strong student. Two downsides are that you are an international student, and need a lot of financial aid.

I would think that NYU is a reach for admissions, but also a reach for affordability. Fortunately “I cannot afford to attend” is the main valid reason for turning down an ED acceptance. I would expect that Abu Dhabi is way more likely than NYC, but I do not actually have any experience with schools outside of North America.

For your other three schools again I think that affordability is as big of an issue compared to being accepted. I think that you will just have to wait and see what happens. There is a very real possibility that you will get one or more acceptances but find that you do not get enough aid and just cannot afford to attend.

I concur with the previous posts questions about affordability. Please make sure you’ve run the NPCs and understand the financial aid policies for international students.

If you need additional suggestions for US schools that may be affordable, let us know.

Unfortunately, Illinois Tech and Stevens will not meet your financial need.

NYU Abu Dhabi has an incredibly low admit rate -around 4% - so it’s a reach for anyone. They are very generous financially but my understanding is that preference is given to Emirati nationals for aid (this may not be entirely up to date info following the NYU promise introduction though).

A lot of the publics on your list, including those in California, don’t give aid to out of state students. You should probably start whittling your list down by removing colleges (public and private) that won’t make your funding target. Start by running the NPC on each one, won’t be entirely accurate but you should get an idea. I think all the ones on your list are need aware for internationals.
