So I’m wondering what you’d rate my chances of getting in are?
I got a 1600 SAT, 1500 (out of 1520) on PSAT
4.0 GPA
Qualified for USAJMO (12 on AIME) last year
Honorable mention at Math Prize for Girls
I am female
Varsity track since freshman year
Attended Promys and HCSSiM
I do community service (math and speech) weekly
I am on the board of speech club, Latin club, and astronomy club (doing astronomy research too, and published in it)
The fact that you qualified for JMO and are doing ECs should help you a lot. Your GPA is also good. Just one question, did you take the new SAT or the old one? Because 1600 well below the UPENN average as well as Yale’s. Just make sure to keep up the academic accomplishments (try qualifying for USAMO this year) and commit to the ECs and your chances look stellar. Also, what grade were you in last year when you qualified?
@reelmathematician I think the 1600 is her score on the new SAT, which is a perfect score.
I think you have a pretty good shot! Just write a great essay, and possibly add specific leadership positions like President of a specific board. However, both Penn and Yale have “holistic” admissions, and many qualified candidates do not get admitted. For example, our Valedictorian who seemed like a shoe-in with amazing qualifications got rejected from every Ivy League. So I would say your chances are pretty good, but remember to have back ups that you genuinely would want you go to
