I am currently attending Georgia State University as a freshman. I am either planning to pursue film and/or law.
Stats:
hs gpa: 2.7
SAT: 1700
College gpa (19 creds): 3.81
I was part of a student Emmy winning film club in high school
Help with local community service organizations
internship for a local non profit
Part of a teach the younger generation club
Part of college film club
For film I want to transfer to USC, UCLA, NYU, Chapman
For Law (pols/philosophy) I want to transfer to Emory, Columbia, Vanderbilt

You probably want to wait another year to transfer, a 1700 on the SAT and 2.7 HS gpa is still not going to cut it for USC, UCLA, etc even if you had a good 1st semester of college.
Transfer next year, retake the SAT.
But after 30 credits USC doesn’t require test scores and don’t look at hs gpa. I will be transferring with 31.
You probably need 30 credits completed when you apply. This is not the case if you apply this Spring.
No it is 30 credits by attendance. I called.
I think in general, if you did well in college, your high school records no longer matter. You have proved that you can be a good college student by your college GPA.
However, beware that for some of the top schools you listed such as Columbia, USC, and Vanderbilt, high stats don’t necessarily make you close to guaranteed admission.

I would say that if you can afford the application fees and the time, then it is worth giving it a shot this year. Worst case, you get rejected from everywhere you apply, spend another year at your current institution, and then reapply next year.
UCLA accepts Junior level transfers (60 semester/90 quarter units), so I would say no chance with only 19 units so far. Your HS GPA and test scores will not be considered, only you have accomplished your Georgia University. Also OOS transfers are very difficult since priority is given to in-state community college transfers.
You can try and apply next year if you are not happy with your current options. Can you afford UCLA?
Yes the finances is not the issue here @Gumbymom I’m just concerned about getting in. What can I do to make myself more prospective for the upper level schools.
UCLA and UCB also have outstanding Political Science / Philosophy programs. You’d need 60 semester units, as stated, to be eligible.
Okay but what about the rest of the schools. I’m least concerned with ucla and chapman. More so with usc, Emory and Columbia. Thank you all for feedback!
I’m currently student at Emory and I don’t think your stats can get you into Emory. Its worth a shot but I would temper my expectations. And if Emory is a reach at this point…well I’m sure Columbia is even harder.
