Hooks: African-American
1st Generation student

I know it’s fair reach, but I figure the worst that could happen is a no. Would your guys input.

the sat are bad. well, not bad. but definitely Yale bad. so if you retake and get better than a 2000, then I think you have a shot (especially b/c of the URM and 1st gen thing)

Also, if you have time to take another SAT II to replace Lit, that might help

GOOD LUCK!!!

Take the ACT and don’t send your SATs if youre applying regular

I actually think you have a decent chance!
Your scores are DEF not top notch but your rank is pretty high and honestly, it’s hard to do school work and work 35 hours a week (that’s almost full-time!)
Your ECs are good too!
Good luck!

He doesn’t work 35 hours a week. He worked a 15 hour job for a few years and then changed to a 20 hour job for the last couple.

Not to diss your work experience or anything, OP. Just clarifying what I’m pretty sure you meant.

No worries. You’re right. I used to work 15 and now work 20. Have to for the college apps! haha

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate the honesty. Very hard to get from friends, family, and close teachers.

If you’re applying EA, very little chance.

If you’re applying RD, and you get your SAT up, then you have a good chance.

I think whether EA or RD you have a really really really good chance! I mean your Student Body President ( leadership), African -American ( URM), 1st generation, work ( commitment), Editor in Chief! With all those hooks and ECS I don’t see why you shouldn’t get in besides your low SAT’s. If you get 2200+ I would guarantee you are in!! Okay maybe not guarantee since you never can with ivys but fairly sure!!

You have a decent chance. Take the SAT again and do well. Or take the ACT.

RED FLAG!!!
Your clubs are not consistent. College looks for someone who has stuck to something they love. Do you love math or football? (possible question to ask)

if you get above a 2100, you have a good 80-85% chance with average essays and recs. If you get good essays and ercs now, youll have abut a 20-25% shot.

^agreed. do not let what i said bring you down AT ALL!

Just curious, bulldog, why can’t somebody like different things? If Goethe could write Faust, advance color theory, and write scholarly opinions on the French Revolution, why can’t somebody reasonably like both Math and football? Or was Goethe just college whoring?

Definitely take the ACT. I got a 2070 on the SAT and then a 34 on the ACT and got in. I am also a black male, and to be honest from what I have seen if minorities do legit on standardized tests (like top 1% in the country) then they pretty much are going to Ivy League schools.

That said, it is still possible to get rejected. I didn’t get into H and P.
