How’s your son doing at Barrett? My daughter just got accepted in Barrett too, CS major. Unfortunately ASU has changed the scholarship policy and they are only giving half tuition to OOS students now. I’m not sure if Barrett is worth the $31k cost of attendance after scholarship.

Congrats!

My son is very happy at Barrett but he probably would not have enrolled there if he had not gotten the full tuition scholarship as he had other good options.

I suggest that you apply to small stackable ASU scholarships such as Gammage, and look into the ASU Next Generation Service Corps program, which comes with a scholarship that covers any financial gap up to full tuition.

Then wait for the formal financial packages from all the schools your daughter gets into, and make your final choice.

Thank you for the suggestions!

Congrats on your acceptances. Any merit from Florida Tech?

Not yet. I got accepted just 2 days ago so maybe I’ll get it later. I also just sent my FAFSA to them today. I will update you if I get merit.

Great - unless things changed, you will. Some send later.

You’re off to a great start and if you ended up at any of these schools, you’d still be great. And you have more acceptances to come!!!

A quick FYI on Missouri S&T (because I don’t see it listed in this thread): It’s fairly easy to get in-state tuition there after your freshman year if you stay in Missouri over the summer. In-state merit aid would go down from $16k to $7k, but since your tuition would drop by $19k, you would save an additional $12k for each of your final three years.

Oh, cool. Did not know that. Definitely a solid safety.

Absolutely. Once you get the interview it is largely the people skills that win out. Interacting with clients is very important.

Wow, 28 colleges! Your kiddo must be very accomplished just to apply to all these and show demonstrated interest to the ones that care. Minnesota is a strong option but looks like no $$ yet.

Thank you! It’s actually a bit more than 28 (about 35 or so) but I lost track haha, and btw, the person going through the college application process is updating, haha!

Thank you about Minnesota; it is a solid program for sure! It will definitely be taken into consideration if I get some sort of scholarship.

Hey everyone. Here I am, a month later. Here are my updates - hectic month.
*All admittances - admitted to CS

New Decisions:
UNC Charlotte - Admitted
Stetson - Admitted
Elon - Admitted
Seton Hall - Admitted
University of South Carolina - Admitted w/minimum 86K scholarship

Fordham - Deferred (??? - Could someone tell me why
)
Tulane - Deferred

Previous Decisions:
University of Alabama
Northern Arizona University
University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
Missouri S&T (16k total scholarship)
East Carolina University
Florida Institute of Technology ($10k yearly, $40k total scholarship)

Please provide any advice or input. Deferrals are hard to take in.

No clue on Fordham

Who remains? Originally you had Ga Tech. I thought it was your only iffy.

You had UNC too. I think in but others not.

How would you rank your top two of the ones you are in?

Who is left?

That was many safeties. But some nice ones. Some inexpensive ones.

And continued good news to come!!!

Congrats.

Appreciate the kind words. I would probably rank the top two as UNCC and UMN.

Here are the rest:
Tulane - Plan to withdraw
Fordham - Not sure what to do
UNC Chapel Hill (EA)
NC State (EA)
UVA (EA)
Baylor (RD)
RIT (RD)
Purdue (EA)
Georgia Tech (EA II)
UIUC (EA)
U Mich (EA)
Pitt (applied 11/8)
Northeastern (RD)
Virginia Tech (EA)
Harvard (RD)
Johns Hopkins (RD)
Carnegie Mellon (RD)
Vanderbilt (RD)
Cornell (RD)
Duke (RD)

omg - you went to waaaay too many schools. How did you have the time. You did way too many safeties. But if you did it, hey - it’s all good.

Why withdraw from Tulane - unless you absolutely know you don’t want to go. I mean, you applied - don’t you want to see if you get in? Others would call that selfish if you know you’re not going but
you paid, you applied, so i don’t see it that way.

Why did you apply to so many schools? How - i mean, your essays - how could you personalize each?

Well - I wish you luck in getting into your dream school - but that’s an insane list.

Good luck - update us after the next round.

Haha yeah, I applied to a lot. I just really want to go to a top ranked school so just trying my chances.

And I’m probably going to withdraw from Tulane because pretty much no one gets in RD. Also, the application is fee so I’m not losing anything. Idk what to do.

And yeah
essays
it was hard and super time consuming and I’m still working on them over winter break for the RD apps. Just gotta grind it out haha.

Thank you so much btw, I will make sure to update late January.

You want to go to a top school - so why would you withdraw? I don’t know - that $3K ta year tuition at Alabama might be appealing!!! They have more NMFs than any school in the country - so it’s no shortage of smart kids.

If you get in to Tulane you have a top option. If you don’t, no harm. It won’t be your only turndown. So I don’t see why you’d withdraw - you still didn’t get a final answer - and you wrote essays - so why vacate now?

I mean, you’re not withdrawing from Harvard. You haven’t gotten a final answer from them yet.

You were deferred - that’s not rejected. it’s likely a rejection - but you never know.
