I don’t even know. I am becoming so depressed/incompetent at possibly the worst time in my life. I feel like I have no chances… I possibly cannot be the only one? And I’ve got a lot of competition at my school as well. It kills me because Yale’s been my “dream school” for years.

I’m posting so I can either a) assuage myself or b) check my growing expectations to keep from crushing me when the rejection letter comes.

Thanks, y’all.

While I am unsure of Yale’s policies, a Harvard admissions officer once mentioned to me that their international admit rate runs slightly under 1%, so i am willing to bet this will hurt you a great deal.

The Yale admissions counselor who came to my school said that international students who were applying from High Schools in the US will be considered as regular applicants - I may have understood it differently, but I’m pretty sure that’s Yale’s policy…

Okay, I am very relieved to hear that. I guess it really depends on the school… thank you for clarifying.

I sound so whiny in my original post. Why won’t CC let me edit :(

I think you have an excellent chance and your artistic abilities definitely distinguish you from the applicant pool. However, Yale is, as you obviously know, a crapshoot in many circumstances.

You have a great chance! Greater than most people, including myself. You have great stats and decent extracurriculars. The thing is is that chancing someone even with your incredible level of grades and tests (etc.) is nearly impossible because many students will have the grades and tests to get in, so it boils down to if Yale wants you. They will look at your essay and your extracurriculars to help determine your admittance. All you can do is wait at this point. Yale is a great school, but not the only one. Remember that!

True, true. Thank you everyone  You guys are reassuring. I’ve gone from depressed and anxious to apathetic now. I just want this whole thing to be over with. ah!! I am so jealous of people who are getting their ED results back…

I totally agree! All of my friends who applied ED or EA have found out, and I have to wait 2 more days! ARGH!

My daughter also allpied for their art program. You said you had two days to go. Did you get in. I thought if you did not ED you had a longer wait

Wow! hope you got in!

By any chance are you willing to show your entire art portfolio or just a few more pieces? I’m really interested. Sorry if it seems kind of nosy, I understand, but my parents run an art studio and I’ve been exposed to art my whole life. I’ve viewed my friend’s art portfolio, she got accepted last year into Yale.

About the international thing: I think a lot of international students have trouble with English and understanding American culture, which affects their test scores and their essays. Harvard and Yale are internationally famous names, so many people apply for the hell of it and lower the acceptance rate. I don’t think being an international student will negatively affect you.

Otherwise, I think you’re a perfectly suitable candidate. There’s no glaring reason to reject you or to accept you.

Do you mostly do realism like in that sample, or do the pieces in your portfolio vary? From what I can tell, you have a good grasp of technique, but I don’t get a sense of your point of view. But it is just one teeny sample. I don’t think your supplement will hurt you, but I don’t know how much it could help you.

Internationals are evaluated as internationals, whether they have attended US high schools or not. Otherwise the supposed not existing quota would not be at ~10% in all colleges, and there would be a high number of such students among each incoming class.
