Extra-Curriculars:
-Selling food (prepared by other volunteers) after prayer service every Friday at masjid, funds go to masjid
-Legacy , executive group (Chief Financial Officer)
-Attended a school on saturdays that was a completely different curriculum, so it is as if I were distance learning, yearly average was approximately 97%. This was grades 3 through 8. Report cards available, approximately 10 subjects were studied throughout the year and 2 major exams (1 semester exam, 1 final)

  • tried out for club basketball & was assigned to a Division 3 basketball team, 2nd runner up in playoffs (2 other teams were HUGE canadian aboriginals settlement/reserve teams, big guys!)
  • Cultural Club
-Leadership camp (summer) Fostering Leadership in Youth
-Regional YSF Canada Correspondent, responsible for many School Correspondents and Reps.
-joining Model UN next year (POSSIBLY)

Please note that the school that I am in right now does not offer APs.The school im moving to does offer APs, so I did not have the same opportunity of having greater access to APs than the students who completed HS at the new school.

The school im moving to is private. Priority in admission is for foreigners, so I might not get accepted no matter how good.

Im looking for tips on where to improve so my application looks much better. I know that I do not have many ECs, but I think I should be able to make up for it during the next summers.Im looking forward to an internship with a major regional Commercial agency that is summer long (2009). In the summer of 2010, i will be applying to an internship offered to my school by a local hospital. Throughout the next 2 years, I will try my best to scoop up any volunteering opportunities offered by the new school, I really need them  im guesstimating that I will be able to get around 90 hours a year through 2-4 hours per weekend (does this sound feasible to you EC-filled people? haha)

Universities im looking into are (leaning towards engineering):

University of Calgary
McMaster University
University of Toronto
McGill University

Georgia Institute of Technology
Columbia
UC - Berkley
UC - Los Angeles
University of Texas - Austin
University of North Carolina
Northwestern University
CMU
Cal. Tech (I know im dreaming, but it just MIGHT happen :D)
University of South California

QUESTIONS:In a general trend, what do you think Im lacking that these universities will immediately spot/pose a threat to my admission offer? which university do you think will match my academic background from what I have done previously and planning to do (going from canadian public to private american, so there are alot of webs and rules to go through, planned courses might not be exact due to differences in curriculums)?
Which is the most suitable match if I were to have an unweighted cumilative average of 3.75-3.90? Are my EC good enough for these institutions? How does ethnicity affect admissions? financial aid?

btw my academic records for elementary school are HORRIBLE (suspended multiple times, im guessing around 30 “white slips”), Fs, Ds & Cs - As and B+ only in 2 subjects. will that effect my chances at all?

other notes:
minority and biracial, Arabic father and Asian mother
Father is alumni of McMaster (grad school) and UofC (PhD)

Thanks!

BUMP! come on! maybe even skim through and tell me what you think! please!
