I’m a white male from new jersey, and more than anything I want to get out this state. My parents will only pay if I get into a good college(top 30). I know I might not have a good chance at some of them, but just chance me. Is my list long enough?

Difficulties- I’m gay

Hook- I want to leave new jersey? none

help me please

I think your SATs/GPA are too low for Harvard and Cornell. Also, Berkeley doesn’t really care about legacies, seeing as how almost none of its funding comes from alums. If you’re in state, you have a shot at UCB, if not, I’d say that, again, your stats are too low. Although the many, many hours of community service might mitigate that. I just don’t know how much.

i was shocked when u said my sat was low, but then i looked at it- my actual SAT is 2110- does this help

anybody im getting board

Have you thought of liberal arts colleges outside of your region – west coast, midwest, south? Many of those are looking for regional variety and, depending on the school and its profile, you could get merit and/or need-based aid. Also, I don’t think that being gay should be any problem in the vast majority of solid educational institutions.

anybody else?

raidersrice,

Berkeley/UCLA: Slight reach (OOS)
Cornell: Match/slight reach
Northwestern: Match
USC: Match

Definition of terms used: Match means you are around the median admit. It does not tell you a “percent” of admission-- it just means that you are the average admit, within one standard deviation of the mean. Slight reach means you are toward the tail end of one standard deviation to the left.

thanks- anybody else?

rice: reasonable reach
northwestern: reasonable reach
Berkley: high match
UCLA: high match
USC: match
Cornell: reasonable reach
harvard: high reach
wake forest: match
rutgers: safe match
oxford/cambridge: reach
bc: match
ann arbor:

I’d say Rice would be a good match (maybe a bit of a reach). And I wouldn’t worry too much about the gay aspect. Even though it’s in Texas, the most conservative of states, being gay at Rice is no big deal.

mj93,

I beg to differ. UCLA and Cal will not be high matches, as he’s out-of-state.

thanks- anybody else have some suggestions? please, can you put my chances as statistics, like 10%, because this match/reach stuff seems kind of vague.

somebody - chance me bloody chances

ill just do this one more to see if i get on the page 2

raidersrice,

The reason that none of us want to give chance percentages is because it’s too hard to really do accurately. Match/safe match/etc. are good approximations, and actually tell you more than “25%.” They tell you how you fare against other admitted students.

Please, stop spamming.

how am i spamming

raidersrice,

You’re bumping your post with short and pretty meaningless posts. Don’t worry, we’ll all help you out as fast as we can, but there’s not much more to really be said about your situation.

i was wondering whether i should respond to this because the message was kind of meaningless, but ok, ill stop spamming

northwestern-semi reach
