CSUs used the weighted-capped one. CPSLO uses the weighted-capped one recalculated to include grades from 9th-11th grade instead of 10th-11th grade like the others.
Unfortunately, SDSU and CSULB tend not to be very transparent about prior admission thresholds. Depending on which Cal Poly, Humboldt is non-impacted except for nursing, so it should admit at baseline CSU eligibility for non-nursing applicants, Pomona shows prior year thresholds at Freshman Student Profile , and San Luis Obispo is less transparent.
Prefacing that I am no expert, just one kid through UC admissions and one kid waiting…and WAY too many hours of my life focused on UC admissions…
I think the likeliest admit from the list would be UCSC - what major did she apply to? UCSC’s Ed major is kind of niche.
I think the rest are all high reaches based on the GPA you provided…but then again, you never know! She’s already got some great acceptances under her belt - I hope she’s delightfully surprised!
Thank you! I will look up the calculator! I need to get my hands on her transcript, but I’m afraid to ask, since I tend to “trigger her” with too many questions!! I appreciate this resource!
Thank you Gumby mom!! This is great perspective.
She applied to sociology for all UCs.
Ag Business for Cal Poly.
SDSU – Leadership Studies (A new major under college of education – last year about 44 were admitted, and 59 applied) Her dream school and ideal major!
Congrats on the admissions this far. All great schools. You’re playing with house money. It may be no more admits or maybe UCSC and Long Beach. Maybe SDSU for the new program but not in other majors.
As the CA schools are test blind, the scores won’t be seen.
Sociology. Business. Leadership. It’s a wide stretch.
No UCR (for business)?
If she gets into the SDSU program, I’d highly recommend a second / double major. Just looking at the curriculum, this will likely be a tough sell employment wise. Just being honest.
Since UCs and CSU are all test blind, scores will not be considered. Just my opinion:
UCSB, UCI, SLO and UCLA are reaches and unlikely.
UCSC is possibly a target, but it can be a tough school to get into depending on major and how impacted. But considering your D extra curriculars which are excellent, I say she will get in.
SDSU and CSULB are not easy to get into as well and I would say they are a possible target to even reaches. I say she gets into Long Beach but not SDSU. However, she has great extracurricular activities. She might!
Great she got accepted to UofA, ASU,
U of Utah
Fullerton
Oregon State
Boise State.
I am not going to give chances especially for the UC’s since they use a holistic/comprehensive admission process but I will list statistical data for major and campus.
SDSU with around a 75% admit rate for Leadership Studies is probably a Target. The overall campus average CSU admit GPA was 4.04 in 2024 with an average enrolled CSU GPA of 3.78 for the College of Education.
CSU Long Beach Business Major had a 31% admit rate with an average admitted CSU GPA of 3.93 specifically for Business.
SLO Agricultural Business had a projected admit rate around 64% (using 33% yield) and the CAFES SLO GPA admit range (25th-75th percentile) was 3.89-4.23
UCSC’s Sociology major admit rate was 58.8% with a Campus UC Capped weighted GPA admit range (25th-75th percentile) of 3.87-4.22
UCI’s Sociology major admit rate was 33.4% with a Campus UC Capped weighted GPA admit range (25th-75th percentile) of 4.04-4.27.
UCSB’s College of Letters and Sciences does not consider major for admissions so the College of L&S admit rate was 37% with a UC Capped weighted GPA admit range (25th-75th percentile) of 4.13-4.29.
UCLA’s Social Science majors in the College of L&S had a 9.3% admit rate with a Campus UC weighted GPA admit range (25th-75th percentile) of 4.20-4.30, Unweighted 3.95-4.00 and Social Science weighted GPA of 4.38-4.73.
SDSU and UCSC are probably the most likely acceptances.
Good luck to her and she already has some good options.
Love the phrase “playing with house money” - thank you for that perspective! And really great advice about a double major. I’ve been thinking so much about Point A (graduation) to Point B (college) but haven’t thought of Point C of employment! Thank you for your perspective and suggestions!
@Gumbymom, thank you so much for taking the time to research and provide this info and perspective. I’ll report back once i hear anything. I appreciate this supportive group!
