Hey All!
After years of roaming around CC and reading posts and getting a lot of information from them, I have finally decided to start an account. Yay! Perhaps the fact that I got a new computer has to do with that decision. Anyways…
I am a high school sophomore who gets As in academic subjects and Bs in Physical Education not because I hate it but because I believe puffing and sweating around a track (for me only) does not help my stamina much. I really don’t have a passion, although I am looking hard for one. Ok, maybe I do have one, writing, starting a business, reading Wikipedia and so on, but I don’t think that counts for everything.
I am very interested in business and engineering and hope to go into a top engineering/business school.
I don’t think I have a safety school.
Please chance me.

GPA: 4.0
PSAT: 210 (really bad, but working on improving it)

I find two ways to react to the last line. I feel like I should say “Well actually 210 is pretty good for a sophomore” but I want to say “Thanks for belittling a score that was better than what I got sophomore year.”

Also, I’m definitely sure that running around a track will increase your stamina no matter who you are. Though if this is not the case for you, perhaps you should consider another sport besides badminton that is a little more physically engaging.

Guys guys guys guys please just leave him alone.

Being a badminton manager is not a tool, it’s actually a probably very prestigious title at his school and badminton is even recognized at the international level so don’t give him crap for that - it’s a legit sport and all, see link for more information

So christiansoldier, you think it’s ok to call him out on his clearly faulty GPA because you think you’re good at geting into colleges like stanford or something? Because if so, you really have no place in this conversation right now. I may not support every falsity this guy is declaring, but he’s just trying to very prematurely rate his chances at stanford. How can you be so against that?

So Larmonely, you think it’s ok to make Christiansoldier, a very well known celebrity on CC, seem like an arrogant ****** for calling out Petridish on his faulty GPA. Because if so, you really have no place in this forum and can leave this conversation right now. I may not support christiansoldier everytime he corrects someone, but he’s just just trying to point out that this guy put down a clearly incorrect gpa so that other people wanting to rate his chances will have an accurate potrait of what kind of student Petridish really is. How can you be so against that?

So Beerom, you think it’s ok to use words that require CC to replace them with asterisks to rebut Larmonely? Because if so, you really have no place in this conversation right now. I may not support Larmonely every time he makes me seem like an arrogant ******, but he’s just trying to defend this guy who we’re calling out. How can you be so against that?

I agree with 5we7h. Badminton is a very tiring and grueling sport that takes the most preparation of any of the two sports I have done. Stringing the rackets before the match, and then doing a courtesy unstringing of the rackets takes several hours, because often times, you want the string tension to be just right and then you never know if the string tension loosens up a bit and then when you’re about to play you really want that extra edge and check up again, this time to make sure your racket is at just the right density all-around. For futher reference, [guy gets hit in the balls with a badminton racket LOL](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sQBADmFMmA)

On another note, to Petrachar1832, Carnival Music is actually a very unique talent to have. Though it occupies a small niche in college communities, I would advocate for continuing your passion with carnival music - it’ll take you there.

I believe that your resume is respectable, but this is Stanford we’re talking about - you never know. I would recommend getting together with 10 or so friends, and creating 10 different honor society clubs at your school.

Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Latino, German, French, Literature, National, Honor Society of Honor Societies, and the Confederation of the most venerated and honorable societies are all good ways to pad your application to get you that extra edge. Make everyone a co-president in every club, and then you’ll be the president of at least 10 clubs. Just make sure you show passion in your essays for being honorable in Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Latino, German, French, Literature, National, Honor Society of Honor Societies, and the Confederation of the most venerated and honorable societies. Having passion in one thing is okay, but having passion in 10 things will really make you stand out.

…lol. is the last paragraph designed to be serious? just wondering.

you might want to pick one or two activities and start doing well competitively in them. lots of people try to tool the app by “diversifying” themselves among a billion “leadership” positions; imo, it’s more meaningful and substantively impressive if you engage some kind of qualitative/quantitative ranking process on any level (regional/state/national) in a competitive activity. also has the benefit of showing you’re well-rounded but have legit passions, and express them in a unique way the college def wants to capture.

Here’s my take, (and take it with a grain of salt).

I have no idea what is important in your application with that huge laundry list of awards, ecs, and positions. I have a hard time believing that you have time to be dedicated to each activity you do. I’d like to figure out where your passions lie.

aquafinalover, I would like to disrespectfully disagree. I sincerely believe that one should play colleges like the stock market, in that if you are involved with over 100 activities like petrarcho1935 is, colleges will be bound to accept you. Colleges are also like people. If you hit them, they probably won’t like you

Do colleges need a badminton manager? How about a carnival music specialist? How about a badminton manager for a team that loves carnival music? By diversifying your profile, you’ll be able to have a great chance. If this strategy doesn’t work, come back and I will give you your money back.

sorry wham, it’s easy for colleges to look at his resume, especially if he bolds what he cares about. If he bolds everything, then they are obliged to read it, as they read everything carefully.

This guy has it all, all he needs is that sat prep class to get on its feet, improve his garbage-awful score of 210 on that psat of his, and create the aforementioned 10 honors societies.

I also heard that colleges don’t really care about what rank you get in awards as long as you get in the top 50th percentile. All of their students are above average, you know that right? So don’t bother improving those 8th and 5th place awards, just go for more of them. Quantity over quality. Overwhelm them with your insubstantial awards!!!1111

Also remember that a 5th place medal at a Science Olympiad State competition is not a 5th place medal, but a Bronze at the Science Olympiad State Finals.

just do what interests you imo… dont do anything just for the heck of it… I didn’t get in btw but I’ll definitely never do something that doesn’t interest me and if you do passionately whatever interests you, you’ll always be successful no matter where you go.
And I’d like to say there’s no formula to get you in. People with really stellar profiles, IMO medals have been rejected.

Yes, AkspayQ is absolutely right. Success is all relative anyways. If you aren’t successful with your college endeavors, you could always start a small business in Sub-Saharan Africa, where you’d be the richest guy in town.

Don’t listen to the haters making you find just one passion. Remember that saying don’t put all of your eggs in one basket? Well, if you do, foxes will come and eat it, or your eggs may go bad and rot and spread the rot around, or if you drop just one basket you could lose all of your eggs. I would put my eggs in 100 individual cartons.

Hey guys,
Thank you for the nice comments.
I agree that I have a lot of extracurriculars, but I am toning it down to mostly science and business stuff. I am also starting a club soon.
Badminton Team Manager is something I did for fun, as well as Carnatic Music. But thats basically it. I used to do fencing too because I was very interested in it but unfortunetely, mes parents couldn’t handle time commitment.
Regarding the GPA, what I meant was I still end up with an A in P.E overall.
I am sorry if you think I was belittling 210; I just knew I could do so much better.
Thanks

P.S. I am a girl, if that factor matters.
