Essay

I would like to say my essay is most likely relatively strong/ competitive for both my personal and college specific essay.

Colleges I am Applying to:

Smith College (ED1)

If I get rejected from this college: Wellesley or Barnard, Bryn Mawr, or Mount Holyoke for ED2

:crossed_fingers:t2:for an ED acceptance.

Do you have a sure thing for acceptance in case the above listed colleges don’t work out? If you do, then go for it.

I think you have a good chance if acceptance at one of these women’s colleges…which are all terrific colleges.

I do! So far Ive applied to a few other colleges, and been accepted into some of them + gotten some scholarships from them. Thanks for the reply!

That’s excellent! You know you are going to college someplace already!

Hope your ED application is a yes.

Thank you!

What science and math are you taking this year? Are you taking Calculus? Most selective colleges will want to see Calculus for a potential science major. Also, no AP science classes other than AP Psychology and Environmental? Are gifted classes equivalent to honors classes? Does your school offer AP Bio or AP Chem? You GPA is great, but your rigor in STEM might be a little lacking as a Biology applicant. I think ED1 & ED2 at your top two choices are a good strategy as long as you have run the NPC and are sure you can afford them.

Thank you for replying and my Math this year is AP stat, and my sciences this year are AP Psychology and APES. Gifted is equivalent to honors at my school, and AP Bio and Chem were offered, but were notoriously difficult at my school due to the two teachers at my school who taught it being extremely strict and “bad” at teaching, so I stupidly chose not to take them for fear of wrecking my GPA :sob:

Well all you can do is apply and see what happens. As I said, your grades are excellent, but the lack of calculus and lack of rigor in the sciences might hurt you as a potential Biology major. Talk to your school guidance counselor, maybe you would be better off applying for psychology? Best of luck to you!

ED helps but no test doesn’t but only 42% of Smith submit. Your rank is a bit low but still in range - so you have a chance.

Not sure what gifted Science is. Psych is with history, not science. It’s a Social Science.

50/50 depending on rigor - the math is a bit low and APEs isn’t considered high rigor.

  • no to Wellesley or Barnard, better than 50/50 to BM and Mt Holyoke given you are full pay.

Have you looked at Agnes Scott - close to home?

Of course, I’m not an AO. So you’ll find out soon enough.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply! and at least at my school AP Psychology is a science class as well as a social science class just due to the heavy focus on brain chemistry/functions of the brain. And gifted just means honors class at my school

Your rank is a bit low but still in range

Can you describe this range a bit more? What might be a rank below which you’d say “low chance,” and what might ber a rank below which you’d say “sorry, no chance” for Smith College?

Not tryna be argumentative – just trying to learn how h.s. rankings are viewed during the process. Thanks.

p.s. Best wishes to @DostoeveskyEnjoyer. I have some first hand experience w/ Smith and I think it’s a fantastic school.
