OP- you sound like a terrific person and any college would be lucky to have you.
You do not need any specific major to be an analyst (I’m assuming you mean something in I-Banking, asset management or related?). You need strong math/quant skills, great communication skills, and a ton of intellectual curiosity. There are lots of folks on CC who have hired analysts- one of the best I’ve hired was a geology major. He had developed his own model/algorithm for predicting volcanic eruptions and everyone who interviewed him said ‘Hire this guy!”. He knew nothing about finance, but a model is a model. He learned how to do the DCF stuff and the finance-specific lingo in a day.
So if I were you, I’d be less worried about a specific program, and focus more on finding several schools (and Fordham is terrific) which will give you the broadest education and make you the best thinker you can be.
Just a note on your International status- is it your intention to stay in the US after you graduate? If so, just stay aware of all the changes going on right now in the US Immigration space. Not favorable to International students- sadly for our country.
And don’t worry AT ALL about your EC’s “matching” your career interests. Working at a yogurt store; camp counselor; volunteering at a nursing home; starting a business to clean out the basements/garages of elderly people who are downsizing; stacking shelves at a food pantry. All of these are wonderful EC’s which just show that you are an involved person with initiative and drive.
And for Fordham (and any other religious heritage type college you may be looking at- whether Catholic, Quaker, etc.) some service element is typically a plus in admissions. Showing a commitment to “giving back” can be more important than a career oriented EC, even for Gabelli.
Good luck!
