Chance me to Ivy's and more

I have a few colleges in mind. I’m from thebmidwest interested in going into engineering.

ACT: 30 (expect 32+ on next test)
GPA: 4.1 weighted (this is as high as my small high school has allowed)
4.0 unweighted
I have taken the most rigorous courses my high school has and have taken a few online courses

I am a captain in debate activities, band section leader, and have a lot of work and volunteer experience. I’m in NHS and went to HOBY. I’ve been a class officer for multiple years. I’m in the art and media club (I never even took an art class in high school). I’m practically involved in everything my high school has to offer besides sports and weed.

I think I have sort of a geographical advantage over many other applicants. There are some people who are involved in things I’ve never even heard of. If I had all those opportunities, I couldn’t stand out, but being from a rural SD town, I’ve taken advantage of almost everything.

One thing in concerned about is SAT subject tests. I don’t have a very big school and our counselor doesn’t help us much, so I never realized I needed the subject tests for most engineering programs (they are “recommended”). I would take Math II and Physics, but I’ve never taken a physics class since physical science (we aren’t allowed physics until senior year). Do I try to self-study for the Physics subject test that is on 2-3 months or do I just take Math II and hope my science grades are strong enough?
(Columbia does put those at a disadvantage who did not take subject tests… Wooo)

Also, chance me to these schools (ordered from least likely to most likely):

Stanford
Princeton
Columbia
Carnegie Mellon
Berkeley
UCLA
UWisconsin Madison
UMinnesota Twin Cities

Well, considering your environment, I’d say that you are pretty qualified for all of them. I’d get that act score up to at least 33 and that would solidify your chances. However, that being said, Stanford, Princeton, and Columbia are always reaches.

Berkeley- Low reach
UCLA- high match
Rest are matches/safeties
