Are you OOS? I’m not sure why there is such a huge discrepancy between what my school lists for stats on Naviance and the chart link above but here are the stats for accepted students from my NY HS

GPA 91.88 SAT1280/1782 this represents the mid range of accepted students from my HS.
30 students have applied over the last 3 years and 19 have been accepted. Go figure

Your most likely will get an offer to PSU main. Penn State looks at a wide range of credentials, not just your SATs and GPA. I was admitted at 1270 SATs. Your leadership in ECs and if you decide to go through with NROTC will both help you.

I would say count on getting in to main campus, if anyhting you would ahve to do summer session, but i doubt it.

i think you’re borderline. apply for summer session to boost your chances. PSU is GPA + SAT, but i’m not sure what an 89 is considered at your school. At mine it’s a B+ and a 3.3. Good luck.

89.6 is a 3.5 and his high 1900 should round up to 2000. That gives him a decent shot, doesn’t it? Aren’t those ballpark figures? Yellow dot is a maybe, no?

according to the legend, yellow dot means he would most likely be offered admission at a branch campus.

but i just looked at my school’s scattergram from naviance and there are green dots (aceppted) and Xs (rejected) all around 3.6/1900. so it looks like he’s about 60% with the 2000 SAT, but i would still apply for summer session!

Wow lil_killer…did you not read the OP’s other ECs and idea to do the NROTC? Both are going to work in the OP’s favor. And his SATs are very good as well.

nominal: what major are you thinking of putting on your app?

Lil_killer is right - EC’s don’t matter, unless you’re applying to SHC or some other special program. For normal admission, everything rides on your GPA and SAT.

“Penn State bases admission decisions on a variety of factors. The high school grade-point average (GPA) accounts for approximately two-thirds of the decision. The remaining one-third is based on other factors, which may include standardized test scores . . . , class rank, the personal statement, and activities list. Class rank is also considered for students with honors or Advanced Placement courses whose schools do not supply a weighted GPA. The optional personal statement and activity list are sometimes used to assist with the decisions for students whose applications require additional review.”

For the most part momwriter and lil_killer129 are correct. PSU gets tens of thousands of applications every year and does not have the staff to take a close look at every one. But, according to the same web page, the mid range for SAT scores at UP are 1740-1980. The OP’s SAT score of 1970 might gain him an extra look, even though his GPA is on the low side. (Is that a weighted GPA? He might also get some help there.) And he is considering NROTC which is a “special program” and I think would be a boost for his application.

And also. thanks for that chart lil_killer. I should get into the college atleast, maybe not university park. I’ll work hard during college, i have the drive (right now). I’ll transfer to university park later on. hopefully.
