Essays/LORs
Writing is my strong suit and I will be able to get great letters of recommendation

Are you planning to apply ED? And is your family comfortable with the ~$80k/year price tag?

Yes, I am planning on applying ED

Are you planning to take physics and a third year of language in senior year? I think these will strengthen your course rigor and therefore your overall application.

U Mich (today) is about $80K tuition room and board the first two years and $85K the last two. Then you have other expenses - books, travel, fun.

Assuming you’ve been gone for three years (as you are implying), then you are not a resident.

Can your family afford UM? U Arizona would be strong in both majors.

You have a chance - let’s say 40/60 - but you have a decent chance - better than average.

But make sure you work with your family on affordability. It’s very expensive for what it is.

Assuming you are ok there, best of luck.

You are not a resident for Michigan. That usually goes to where you will graduate high school. I grew up outside Detroit and it didn’t feel right that my son went to Michigan as an out of state student since we haven’t lived there in year’s. Lol.

As great as a student as you are don’t let up. Take the most rigorous senior classes as suggested. Look at Michigan’s requirements and meet or exceed them. Many applying will. ED as you know is new this year. They haven’t figured how many students they are targeting yet. They only use unweighted scores.

How many students applied and how many got acceptances to Michigan in the past from your high school ? How many actually committed and went? Some of this matters do a degree.

Good luck.

I’m already a senior, and no, I already have 3 years of science so I’m not taking a 4th… I decided to take a 5th math course instead

Ok, as long as you realize that the lack of physics and only two years of foreign language may hurt you at schools like Michigan.

Are you aware that a math major is about writing proofs?

Why would that be a bad thing? Math is fun. So are proofs. I freaking love calculus and I want to go further.

Not a bad thing. But some students like following procedures to get answers rather than proving things and don’t realize that math is mainly the latter until later.
