This is my first post because I felt as if I HAD to say something about your stats. My friend ,who graduated last year, got into UMD with a GPA around 3.8/3.9 and a SAT of 1600, and didn’t even have an abundance of extracurricular activities. Anyway, my main point is that you are essentially 22 hours away, barring some terrible collapse of the UMD servers, from finding out your decision. That is to say, the opinions that you get from here should absolutely be taken with a grain of salt because no one here has a definite idea of what that admission officers are looking for in applicants;they can only provide opinions based on average stats and disclosed information.

i like the way you think, plus if things were meant to be things will be. I already have gotten into 4 schools, most in the program i wanted but my dad wants me to go here and stay in state since its my only state school.

i know of plenty of people who had the “middle range” or even higher…that got FC and even denied and plenty “below averages” who got accepted Fall or FC.

Congratulations on your other acceptances!!! Also, from my own senior year experience, I feel that my peers are often dejected because of opinions received from other students such as… “that SAT score won’t get you in” or “that school is out of your GPA range” among others. I just encourage everyone to apply to the school(s) of his/her choice because there are only few outcomes: accept, deny, defer,or waitlist. Why not apply and have one of those outcomes? Rather than going through life wondering what if I had applied and got accepted. As my coach always yells from the sideline “if you don’t take a shot, you will never score man.”

Such variations in decisions occur from poor ECs and poorly written or borish essays. While they are numbers driven, one cannot expect a rejection or acceptance solely from their SAT and GPA, though they can receive vert general chances.
I think you have a good shot, but what I think is different from what an admission officer thinks.

Even with my “good” stats, Im afraid rejection due to my mediocore ECs and my could-have-been-better essays.

Everyone is calling me a downer
All Ive done is looked at previous years deciscions and approximated what gets accepted and what doesnt based on certain circumstances.
A downer would be-“Youve got no chance at all, look elsewhere.” Thats way too harsh and doesnt explain why that might be. I remember when I asked to be chanced, the reply I felt was most helpful was the one that didnt just repeat “youre in!” but told me what I lacked while assuring that I was still good.

unless you’re out of state you dont need all the 4+ uw GPA to get in if you’ve looked at naviance graphs and such.
he/she does not even have a parent in college, getting in Fall is in no way a uber reach at all…
oops didnt notice SAT score, but I still think you’ll do fine

Lol drose1 thats what I said. Only 25% of people admitted to UMD had scores lower than 1750(?). Just got that from collegeprow. She has a chance, but it depends on the SAT breakdown, and also everything else non-academic related.

This was from an Admissions Officer that came to my school: SAT scores are one of the many factors that determines acceptance. There is no score that will “get you in” just like how there is no specific GPA that will guarantee acceptance as the admission review process individualized;each student’s academic achievement is considered based on their respective situations/opportunities in conjunction with other considered factors for admission.

The numbers are a bit low, but instate/firstgeneration/minority/EC’s are totally in your favor. Yeah, SATs suck in general and its crappy that UMD is so numbers oriented, but thats the way it is… I’m pulling for you! I think you’d make a great terp, it’s not always about the transcript or scores.
