Thanks for looking at my post.

OOS admissions are much tougher than IS.

FYI, the only SAT scores they look at are CR & M, and you are in the range for standardized test scores both for SAT and ACT.

However, if that is your weighted GPA (what is the scale?), I’m assuming that your unweighted GPA is lower and therefore is a weakness. Maryland is one of those schools that is big on the stats. They convert all GPA’s to a 4.0 scale, which basically means that your unweighted GPA is the one that will count for admissions. What is the trend of your grades? Did you have one tough year due to extenuating circumstances that is pulling down your overall GPA, but you turned things around? If so, you should address that somewhere in the application.

Also, your EC’s are a weakness. Please don’t be offended, as I could be totally off, but one year involvement in several clubs kind of looks like you joined clubs just to put them on your resume. There is no commitment or leadership demonstrated with one year involvement. Is the one year all starting in junior year because of some reason like inability to stay after school due to transportation problems or a job or family obligations? Or did you try just one a year and find it wasn’t for you and tried something else the next year? Whatever the case, you should note that either as part of your essay or on your activities resume.

Do you think you will have strong letters of recommendation? Has anyone read your essays to give you feedback on them?

You are doing the right thing by applying early, as that is your best chance. Hard to predict admission chance without having answers to the questions I raised. You don’t have to post the answers, they are just there for your own edification about things you may want to address in your application, in my opinion.

Your GPA is a bit on the low side for UMD. SAT is within range. Apply and see what happens.
