I just completed my junior year at a moderately large public school (around 1,200 students). I am a white middle class female, and both my parents went to college, but my father died when I was 7 so my mom raised me as a single parent. My school is an IB school, and I am a full diploma candidate which means that I take TOK (theory of knowledge) as an 8th class after school, write an Extended essay, and complete 150 CAS hours. My school does not do rankings. I know that many colleges look at individual course grades more than GPA, so I included all of those. My SAT is 2200.

Captain of the debate team starting junior year, member since sophomore year. 2nd place in the district tournament in Public Forum debate, 1st place at the regional tournament, 2nd place in the state in the largest and most competitive division.

member of cross country and track since freshman year. Was injured freshman and sophomore year, stress fractures in both legs. Long an difficult path to recovery, but as a junior I was MVP of the cross country team and 1st team all district. During the winter season I broke the school record in the 1000 and was a valuable member of many relays. During the outdoor season I was MVP, district champion in the 3200 and a member of the 4x800 relay team which placed third in the district, advancing to regionals for the first time in 15 years.

As a first year staffer on the newspaper, I was promoted to centerspread editor half way through the year, which is really rare for a first year. Next year I will be managing editor, the second most powerful position on staff. I do pretty creative design work and I would say that I’m a pretty good writer. Our paper has won national awards.

I also play the viola. During freshman and sophomore year, I was a member of a small youth orchestra, usually sitting 1st or 2nd chair. The orchestra disbanded, but I still play on my own and am probably going to start taking lessons again.

Counselor will write me a really good one, really likes me. Can probably get another pretty good one from my history teacher or TOK teacher possibly.

Pretty strong writer, should be pretty good.

-former member of the key club, actually accomplished some stuff
- Lots of other athletic awards (scholar athlete, varsity athlete for 3 seasons each year, etc.)
- award for excellence in academics (given to around 10 high schoolers in my district)
- volunteered with girls on the run for about a year

Please tell me what my chances are at the following schools. I have kind of a weird resume, so I’m also wondering how selective of an institution I can get into in general… Thanks!

Fordham
Dartmouth (…it’s a stretch!)
