Schools : Penn State University Park (#1 choice), University of Minnesota (Minneapolis/Twin Cities), Purdue University, and University of Illinois at Chicago

GPA: 3.0, top 50%
All Honors classes for all 4 years, No AP
ACT comp: 26 (should i take the SAT?)

EC's: Art and Camera Club for 2 years.
Volunteer Work: The Color Run - Filled and handed out cups of water to over 200 people, took inventory.

My profile seems pretty bad compared to others trying to get into Penn State, what do you think?

Penn State: High match (Penn State has no ED, and GPA is ~2/3 of the whole process)
UMinn: Reach
Purdue: High match (if you don’t want to do engineering)
UIC: Low match/Match

UIUC: high reach
U Minn Twin Cities: high reach
Penn State: mid reach
Purdue: high match / low reach

I recommend you retake the ACT, as your GPA is at the very low end of the typical accepted GPA range for Penn State and you have no APs, and a higher ACT score than the average applicant will boost your chances. Also, use first semester senior year to bump up your GPA.

And look, just because some of these schools are a little out of your reach, it doesn’t mean you’re not a competitive applicant. Just find schools that are the right fit for you! :)
