Everyone loved my essay, I have a nice reccomendation.

Forgot to say: Accel. math, honors english, honors engineering

how many APs, in-state?, breakdown of 2150, major?

Major: Econ
Math:750
Reading: 720
Writing: 680

^And out of state.

so you can do it, but will you?

Is that what the AO is saying? Is the AO saying if I take OP away from OP’s buds will OP just find new pals or will OP work hard? Is the AO saying that the SAT is one day and the GPA is four years?

I need to know the nature of that upward trend. What were your GPAs each of 3.5 years?

and, since it’s econ, how’s your performance on any calc courses or SATIIs?

I did a little above average on sat ii, don’t remember exact score.

Freshman year is not in the gpa but on the transcript, and I was terrible. Sophomore year I got about 3.04 and junior 3.14. Not quite sure about now, similar to junior year I guess.

Correction, junior year was more like 3.07

I wrote a response but I don’t see it here.

What I see here, and I believe I now have enough info to say this, is a suggestion that you’re capable but not successful, that for whatever reason the intelligence doesn’t result in success in school of the kind Pitt would like to see you demonstrate.

have you thought about a year at a community college if you have your heart set on pitt?

I agree with jkeil911. Your SAT scores are good, but your GPA is dangerously low compared to the average accepted at Pitt. Last year’s freshman class had an average GPA of 3.97. At 3.11, you are way below that average. And your SAT can make up for that a little, but not a lot I imagine. The lack of APs also doesn’t help explain the low GPA.

Here’s last years data: http://www.ir.pitt.edu/cds/documents/CDS_2013-2014Pittsburgh.pdf

but, AO, isn’t that 3.97 a WTD GPA? I get the impression OP’s is UNWTD. The Pitt UNWTD GPA is something like 3.56.

Yeah the 3.97 is definitely weighted, not sure what the unweighted amount would be, but most definitely higher than 3.11 by a bit. Plus you have to take into consideration things like:

–rigor of courses (APs? Accelerated?)
–rigor of grading (ex. at my HS an A was 94+ and a B+ was 90-93, so getting a 4.0 is harder than at other schools)
–amount of other activities going on that might hinder a high GPA

Just based on the post of OP, doesn’t seem like they have a good excuse for the low UW GPA

true dat last, AO.
